Hi all,

I have a slight shudder when idling but tacho remins steady.
It is happening a bit more at the moment and others on the forum have suggested it may be the engine mounts.

I am a newby in regards to working on cars, how hard is it to replace the engine mounts, can I do it myself?

Never done it before and dont know whats involved but Im pretty sure its not something you would want to do yourself. I may be wrong but I dont think its a minior job.

I've done it before but that was on an old kingswood (very easy) but with a magna I'd say there is a bit more involved, basically you will need to support the engine with a trolley jack or something while you loosen the engine mounts, remember to only take one mount off at a time so that your engine can't fall. The trolley jack is only there to support the engine and not to lift it up.

It is an easy job but you might find it hard to reach the mounts and undo them as there's not much space to move around under there.

Hope that helps
Cheers Adam.

The one that goes most often is the one thats easiest to see, it's on the drivers side of your engine at the top, have a look at it and look for split rubber, or little bits of rubber that are loose. They aren't cheap I just payed $196 for mine but they're easy to change,

You'll need a jack, block of wood, 17mm socket/ratchet/extension and if possible a torque wrench. Basically take the weight off your engine by jacking under your sump with a block of wood softly, then you can undo the 4 engine mount nuts/bolts. When putting it back in slide the cross bolt into the mount first(don't tighten it yet), then the two nuts and one bolt going to the bracket, you can tension these up. Remove the jack and let the mount take the weight of the engine, then tension the crossbolt.

I'll check my manual tonight for tensions if you want, or if your going to do it by hand, the 3 on the bracket are tight, the crossbolt not so tight :P
