TL Centre Console Removal

Hi all i was wondering if removing the centre colnsole on a TL is the same as removing it from other 3rd gens, namely bains guide in 3rd gen FAQ. If anybody has done this to there TL can you plesae let me know of any problems you faced and any hits at how to get it off.

I have removed the lower part many times before so its just the part where all the controls are.

I've removed mine before, so here is a lightning (quickly written, not how long it will take to do) guide.

1) Remove the gear lever surround (apperently this should present no problems).
2) Remove the passenger side console side cover. There are a number of screws to locate and remove around the glovebox lid. There are also two or three christmas tree clips to remove by carefully pushing through from inside the console.
3) With 2) complete, push the compartment with the lid through directly towards the rear of the car with your hand, through the gap opened up with the side cover removed, pushing the back of the compartment. There are two locating pins/clips towards the top of the compartment and maybe one or two at the bottom.
4) You should now be able to see two screws at the bottom on the remaining panel, remove them.
5) Remove the heater and ventilation knobs by pulling them towards the rear of the car. They do not have any retaining screws.
6) The rest of the surround/cover around the radio and ventilation controls is removed by pulling it towards the rear of the car. There are a number of locating pins/clips (four from memory). The difficult ones are at the rear of the vent, these stayed partially attached on mine and the vent seperated from the surround. If all goes well the vent should pull forward with the surround as a unit.
7) DO NOT tip the removed cover. Remove the A/C on off button and the rear screen demistor buttons from the surround, otherwise you risk having them bounce on the concrete and getting chipped!

I would suggest that any brute force used will result in breakage, and a more considered approach is required as each piece is carefully extracted.

Have fun..
Ken
