I recently posted how my car wouldnt go into third gear properly (91 magna TR auto 2.6). Some say it was 'flaring' and what not so I took it to the mechanic to check it out. I just go the car back yesterday, and he said that it was something in the gearbox was definatetly broken. He said low gearbox oil pressure killed it. Probably the whole box had to be replaced or a rebuild. The options he told me are:

1 - rebuild the box. total cost ~ $2000+ (dont think so. i bought the car for $2000 last year. really not worth it)
2 - get a second hand box and put that in ~ $1000 - $1500. (hmm still a bit much. 2nd had gearbox might also be a dud)
3 - Just get rid of it and sell it to a wrecker for a couple hundred bucks.

Hmm not sure what do. I don't have much cash to buy another car, and I rather get this fixed somehow. I sorta doubt the mechanic a bit, because I think he might have an ulterior motive, cos he offered to buy it off me for $200 and he could use it as a loan car for his shop.
The mechanic seemed nice. He didn't charge me for the diagnosis.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

THanks.

check on ebay seen a gearbox on there might fit your car.
