My revs drop when the air-con gets turned on, so does this mean the ISC is stuffed?

I thought this was common occurence in all cars.
The air-con draws power, and the engine loses out.

i think youll find the less revs is practically designed that way...not intentional..but a side effect of most car aircon's...hence why your average holden barinawoo has no go with the aircon on (or with it off)

heya..
its the compressor that sucks out all the power from your motor :(
i notice a power loss on my v6 when i have the A/C on to...
its pretty comon with all the older vehicles.. not as bad on the newer vehicles..

i noticed this the other week when driving with 4 people in the car with the air con on full blast.
had my foot flat to the floor
and hardly moved anywhere, i struggled to overtake a VN commodore which wasnt going more then 40km/h
so when its hot now i make them roll down the windows so i stil have power:)

LOL
yeh unfortunately it takes alot outta the motor to drive that damned compressor (*thinks about throwing it away)
but seems to be a very comon occurence.. not only on magna's but most cars..specially pre 95ish..

When your air con turns on it should drop about 400rpm and then raise 200rpm.
I had the problem of the TR dropping revs and not stepping back up.
Cleaned the TB and all was good again. The butterfly edges were black as black can be so i think the butterfly was sticking and couldnt allow for additional airflow when the A/C was turned on.

Mythbusters did a test and it works out better in fuel economy this way than to have the air-con on. Which is ok on the highway, but peak-hour traffic it's a killer.

i always read about it on here, and never knew how bad it was, and since i dont drive THAT much in the summer i never though much of it.

was this the epiosde where they were in SUV's and drove around a race trakc, one with air con on, other with windows down?
didnt the results come back inconclusive? as in both had the same fuel economy?

They found that it's better to have window open under 80km/h. Over 80, when aerodynamics is a factor, it's better to reduce drag, roll up the windows and put on the a/c.
