Ok so i have noticed that the Rear Driver side wheel does not lock on as well as the LH one. SO i took off the wheel and adjusted the ratchet thing on the hand brake mechanism but still no good, i mean it's better but i can't seam to lock that wheel with the brake unless the car is stationary, so no handbrake turns for me. I can't adjust the handbrake any more as it will rub the pads.

ANY ideas, is this a common issue or what, I WANT HANDBRAKE.

Yes I have the same situation on my 98 magna

My mechanic said its a normal problem and is a weak spot on the magnas !

Be caueful not to adjust the hand break up too much as you will cause the pads to rub and wear faster !

If your doing a motorcana like I do then adjust the break up in the morning and loosen it off after the event !

If you open up your center consul and lift out the tray you will also see the hand brake cables running over the floor with some more adjusters on them !

Hope this helps
Greg

yeah the main handbrake cable is all good. The adjustment for each wheel seams to be the problem. One side, RH, as to beout a lot more to work properly, but still preaty dogy.

I'll have to talk to mitsi but not holding my breath.

My understanding is it is designed as a park brake only. and is designed only to have maximun effect at holding the vehicle from stationary not for doing handbrake turns etc.

its been poorly adjusted

there not the best system for a hand brake but if there not adjusted the right way yes 1 will lock and the other wont

Mines adjusted about as hard as you can make it and it won't lock the wheels on tarmac. Don't do handbrakeys, they'll just bald spot your tyres and wreck your handbrake pads.

i've had the same sortta deal from my TE, took it to ABS and they recon'd i needed a new cable as mine had strech'd or some cr@p.

anyways, $200 later it still wasn't much better.

next time i drop'd the car in for a service (at my normal service mob "NASA")
they fix'd it up for me without me even askin (and at no charge too).
from time to time you hear a little squeek from them (when reversing) but just a slight pull on and off of the brake and she's gone.

hope it helps. (the handbrake still sucks compair'd to other cars but it works a hell of a lot better when "someone who knew what they were doin" play'd with it)

Hey Dogs !

News flash ! 4WD's dont need to use hand brakes for turning as the all wheel drive sweeps it through the corner well with max traction !

That a pretty slick lookin magna... with the sprintex supercharger does that produce 240kws as claimed ?

Sorry for the epic bump but my handbrake died today I think. This morning when I started her up and slowly exiting my place I could hear squeaking as the car rolled along (rear right wheel) which disappeared after a while I think due to heat. However same noise when I came home from work just then and went to park with handbrake and it made a slight clanking noise under the car and now the handbrake itself is very loose to pull up and doesn't lock in fully now.. The car in D will still move when fully pulled up. Any ideas?
