I am after some realy sweet splits for my system I been talking to a retailer and they recommended the DynAudio system 240GT for around 800 bucks. Anyone had an experience with this brand as I havn't really herd of them before. The sale's man reckons they sound better than focals, but I never really trust salesman you never know weather they are pushing the best product or the product with the biggest profit margins
Thoughts ????
DynAudio is one of the better brands on the market yes but as far as them being better than Focal; that's just rubbish.
They (Focal and Dyn) are both very well designed and are constructed from quality materials. They both have their own unique colouring of sound too. I find the Dyns to be a little more refined and smoother than the old Focal Utopia (the Focal equivalent of the 240GT) which suits softer genres of music. The Focals had a stronger attack and were therefore better suited to harder genres of music than the Dyn's. But this is really minute nick picking. Both are fantastic and I wouldn't turn either down. :)
BTW, let me know the best price you get before you buy because we do special rates for AMC members. :)

Yep... I can second that. I have found that Focals can really bring the magic out of audiophile disc recordings, yet can also become harsh when listening to normal "everyday" tunes. I guess it's just the recording process. Much of todays music is produced to sound good on radio (I guess for marketing purposes) but this in turn can produce a "compressed" sound. Focals tend to (IMPO) take ordinary recordings and make them sound hard and raspy, whereas the Dynaudio speakers can remain refined with most types of music. The big drawback with Dyns is that they take enormous amounts of power to get em working, and some ppl can find them a lil too laid back (particularly if they are used to metal dome tweeters).
All in all it comes down to personal taste, and I'm happy with my focals, but I'd be more inclined to go the Dyns if you are listening to a wide variety of music such as heavy metal or techno, vocals, but want an audiophile speaker when it counts. Go the focals if you want an accurate sound, blemishes and all..

because im not made of money, i chose Focal 165 A1's, which i picked up new for around $220. Sounding good to me :)
i got 6.5" cadnece us-6k's and they are great, fine for me, i think they are on sale at jb hi-fi, havent seen cadence in many stores,
looking at my next addition to sound, a beastmaster 5000w sub, that way i dont have to upgrade later :D .
I say if you should trust most of these guys as they normally no what they are talking bout,
i havent listened to focal or dyn enough to be a judge as most my friends think pioneer and alpine are the best, they dont even know what rms is. lol

rms = Really massive speakers?
:fruitcake
rms = Really massive speakers?
:shock: :shock: :bowrofl:
its a real measurement for watts, if a speaker says 400w max it means absolutely **** (or treat it this way) however if it says 400w rms (if someone finds spl 400w rms speakers let me know), it is actually measureable with a voltmeter.cant remember what the actual letters mean right now, guess i am in the same vote as you 'Really massive speakers' :D

RMS is the Root Mean Square, or the square root of the arithmetic mean (average) of the square's set of values. A reasonably accurate method of describing an amplifier's power output.

that sounds right, o well its not in one of my subjects this so i'll just forget about it again till after i fail year 12 :cry: (how the **** am I suppose to get 94.45?)
Best bet is to look at RMS and Frequency Response + or - such and such Db (normally around 3 Db) Then use your ears for final choice.
The speakers your talking bout seem good and look like they are also rather expensive (more than what i got). So i say try real hard to get a listen.

Thanks for the help guys, I'd say right now Im leaning toward the DynAudio but I wont be making up my mind till Thursday!
Hell the fact that one of my best mates has a set of Focals makes me lean toward DynAudio as that way we will have something to argue about! :rant:

hehe, im like that with my mates. One has $600 Focal splits in his lancer that is only getting 50WRMS and is just screwed into the door with no sound deadening or anything! he has no clue how much speaker performance he is missing! I look forward to giving him a listen to my splits which cost less than half, which includes my sound deadening :D
