View Full Version : Tacho not working...sometimes...Fuel guage not working... all the time!

More electrical nightmares! yay!

My TP's tacho stops and starts. I get about 3 days without a tacho then suddenly it appears and all my passengers cheer. About 10 minutes later it stops. Repeat cycle. Rinse... Drain...

Also...

My fuel guage is entirely useless. It starts at 1/2 full and goes up from there with a full tank. Then it goes down again.

Any ideas as to how i can diagnose the problem?

I'll scan the test and calibration proceedure for the fuel gauge and email it to ya, as long as you can drive a multimeter its pretty straight forward. :D

My car is worse. I have spiders living in it and the front end has something like 13 bolts missing.

I thought that the fuel guage, and in my case the temp guage as well was not working because of a diode in the dash.

Old flatuant one, can you send that email to me as well; qaxly@yahoo.com.au

I am thinking of getting an after market temp guage as I am worried about the temp under the bonnet after a longish run at the legal speed limits.

My car seems to have a new water pump and radiator cap which indicates the previous owner had problems, but a doubt the previous owners mechanical abilities and would not be surprised if the job has only been half done, hence the need for me to know how hot it is getting.

I can live without the fuel guage but it would be handy.

Cheers Bruno

If anyone needed to know the plug is on the back of the fuel tank. Its pouring rain outside so my plan to test the guage today has become unfeasable. Guess i'll try to fix my bumper instead.

Hi and welcome GLXtra. :D

The book isnt very helpful with tacho's, it just suggests you connect another (stand alone) tacho to the sense wire and see if the pulses are getting through.

I assume yours is a TR, if you want the wiring diagram PM me and i'll send you what you need. :D

If you have a TR and broadband download this, its bloody great.

Mine is a tp model.
I think it was built in 1990 but it is registered as a 1991.
I live in New Zealand and it usually takes a while for a new car to be registered here.

Hey Ol' Fart, could you please send that email to me as well?

My fuel gage starts way to the left of empty and goes to halfway when it's full. I have been filling my tank every 300 km rather than using the fuel gage.
