I just bought a lemon :S, the previous owner has put way too much oil in it when he's last serviced it or some****, cos i drained it and it filled a 9.5 l bucket.
Anyway before i drained the oil and changed filter etc, it started blowing heaps of smoke out of the back prob cos of excess oil. But now the car is misfiring and backfiring and only seems to be running on about 3-4 cyl. Ive just changed all leads and the fron 3 spark plugs and cleaned up rear 3, after having to take off the whole god damn plennum. Should i change the rear spark plugs?

Also the oxygen sensor near the cat has come off will this also cause of problem like this? Is a whole rebuilt in order? i got no idea not a fan as i just bought the car...
is a 3.0l TF magna BTW

Cheers
Shane

Change the rear plugs. I had a mech overfill my last car and it buggered all the plugs. You may need to take it in for a complete top-to-bottom by a mech too, to see if there is any further damage.

:stoopid:

Also you need that O2 sensor connected for the car to run properly. You may also have stuffed the cat. I'd do the plugs, fix the O2 sensor and take her for a bit of a run on Pulp to see if she comes good. :D

the whole problem is the O2 sensor, if it is not reading correctly then it is telling the ecu the wrong thing for the amount of air the engine is drawing in. Changing the plugs will help the car run smoother.

O2 sensor MUST BE CONNECTED! Also check the throttle position sensor at the side of the throttle body. Check that the white paint on the 2x screws isn't cracked - meaning that the TPS has been moved. You will also need to clean out the PCV valve for excess oil and sludge - 5minute job and posibly replace the catch canister.
