View Full Version : 380 Ads
Anyone seen any 380 ads on tv lately? I haven't seen any lately. How are they meant to sell well if you hardly see or hear about it in the media? Most Mitubishi ads to date have been pretty lame. I still see Mazda ads on tv for models that have been out for a while now and they're selling well. I think the Holden Barina ad is pretty cool with the basketball theme. Mitsubishi needs an attractive ad that captures the audience.

It would appear that Mitsubishi's new chief has realised that their marketing campaign for the 380 to date has been lacklustre, and has decided to do something about it. The following was reporrted in GoAuto on 25 January 2006:
"In an effort to stem the damage from a lack of large-car sales – a problem shared by other local car-makers – Mitsubishi plans to re-invigorate its marketing and sales push for the 380.
Spokesperson Sequoiah Fischer told GoAuto this week that a renewed marketing campaign was planned for the 380, which, among other things, would involve re-branding the car to move it further away from the Magna. Mitsubishi Australia intends to spend $2 million per month on the marketing and advertising campaign, while president and chief executive Rob
McEniry has vowed not to discount the vehicle."
It will be interesting to see what they come up with. Hopefully they'll be concentrating on the car and not just bits of road being hauled around. A friend of mine is part owner of a Mitsi dealership and he reckons that people still regard the 380 as a Magna and not a completely new car. He, and other dealers, blame the bland marketing campaign to date as well as massive discounting by Holden and Ford.
On a bright note he's noted that every owner of a 380 that he's spoken to universally loves the car regardless of the model and what they changed over from. He's never had this happen before and it bodes well for the car if Mitsi can get people into dealerships before Toyota, Ford and Holden begin their next marketing and discount onslaughts.

It's as completely new as the evolution from TS to TE Magna...... only real difference is that MMAL trying desperately to get a good brandname and prevent the issues with depreciation that they gave the Magna - most likely related to discounts, the hang-over of mechanical reliability issues from the first 2 generations and uncertainty over the factory coupled with negative press.

They need a decent catchy tune that will stick in peoples minds and subsequently remind them of the 380. Also, Mitsu need to scrap that dope with the stupid voice on the pajero and triton commericals too. Replace him with music and the triton and pajero on the building site or 4wdriving! People don't want to see a pajero sitting in a showroom :disgusted They want to see it tackling rough terrain, conquering mountains, parked at a shopping centre, reversing over toddlers at school!
Remember the Astra convertible ad with Bohemian like you by Dandy Warhols? Catchy tune right? And funny too with that puppy dog with fur in it's eyes until it accelerated lol

It's true i dont watch alot of TV anymore, but i've seen a few adds for triton and pajero, but none for the 380. Back in december last year i'd see one nearly every day.

Thats the problem, there has been one ad about it, and a crap ad to boot! I have always thought that ad doesnt showcase the actual car enough!

Yeah, the 380 ad was crappy, compared to (for example) the BA Falcon ad when it first came out. Mitsubishi needs to be much more agressive in it's marketing. They need to realise that while most people buy the boring base model, they want to believe that they're only a step away from the sports model.
The 380 is a better car than the Camry (by a long shot). Mitsubishi should stop directly competing with the Falcon and Commodore. Toyota cleverly repositioned the Camry as a "mid size" car. Since people are so worried about fuel costs, they neglect the fact that the Camry is basically the same size as the Falcon/Commodore. I really hope Mitsubishi starts to pitch itself against the Accord Euro/Subaru Liberty/Mazda 6 segment. In that segment, it would shine. That is, a medium size car, but with big car performance, better build quality, and a bit of a European flavour. By trying to prove it's "better" than the Falcon/Commodore, it's inviting comparisons on size and outright performance, which it will never be able to win.

Just saw the one regarding a limited edition add-on pack for the base 380 with prices starting from $29,990. The discounting begins. :(

They need to be far more agressive in the marketing side of things if they want people to know what there product is, just look at the xbox, marketing did wonders for it, just keep putting it in front of people's faces till they dream about it at night!!!
Duh mitsubishi, are you still awake??? Bloody wake up and start advertising.

Remember when the TL came out Mitsu had an ad about the AWD version showing how well the car handled compared to the XR6 and SV6 on a dirt road. Nice race it was XR6 in front, Magna 2nd and SV6 last and then them going of the road at the corner and the magna flying around it. That ad got me interested in the AWD.

Not to mention that add got alot of 'talk' from people. Which is exactly what the 380 needs. The best adds are the ones that get people talking about them, they need to get the word out there by doing something different. i.e. XR falcons pulling power - we all remember the add with the hot chicks right? and now they're doing the follow up with the dogs. Great marketing, love it!

If im right i think that ad got banned because it was showing irresponsible driving. Just like the Holden Zafira ad got banned as it showed parents "banashing" their child to the third row because it drew on its sibling with a texta  Child abuse i think they called it.

It's for the Honda Odyssey and I don't think the parents are going for it in front of the kiddies in real life, hence you don't see the parents and kiddies in the same frame.
Nevetheless, where's Harold Scruby Doobie with this ad? A pedestrian walking past the car (remember it's parked on the side of the road) could get distracted, waunder onto the road and get wasted by an approching car.

For a new ad campaign, they should do an ad for each model grouping (Luxury - LS/LX/GT and Sporty - VRX)
The current ad with the base model scares people away!
