i was wondering if anyone else out there had tried DVD audio CD's with their in-car DVD system? i gave it a go today with Linkin Park's Reanimation DVDA, sounds freekin awesome!!
the headunit doesn't support the higher resolution mode, but even still the 5.1 mixing makes such a difference! i can hear so many other little things that were missed in the CD recording!
just thought i'd let everyone know how pleased i am with it :D

I've seen people just put video clips onto a CD-R or DVD and play it like a normal DvD. pretty easy to do with nero.

is there a program out in software land where you can put film clips (mpegs) onto a dvd disk ?
There are quite a few CDs these days being released in "Dual Disc" format. Its a disc where one side is a regular CD, and the other is a DVD. The DVD side has videos, limited ed. footage, and the audio record recorded into 5.1 digital format.
If u pop into any CD store you should be able to find them. I know for sure virgin stores all have them

Nero Burning Rom.
it only does vcd's ... does'nt have the option to do mpegs to dvd disk ... soon as you click on the dvd tab the photo/video option is gone

Agreed. Even anything over the normal 4 speakers is overkill.
But, if I could afford it and the car provided a good base for doing it, I might.

It's an audio format on DVD. CD's are alright but it's still not as good as the original source. The sound wave is clipped top and bottom and as a result, frequencies are missing. As DVD has heaps more capacity, a few albums have been re-mastered and put to DVD-A. I can't wait to try one at home except my system is just a Pro Logic system. The stereo reproduction would still be better than a CD - *hugs his Technics unit*

yeah it doesn't sound right, buy i'm pretty sure thats what they're called!
the Linkin Park one i got, has the full albums recorded in both 5.1 and stereo, during the track, it just has a background with the title of the song playing, and if it has a video, theres a link so you can watch the film clip aswell.
theres also some other "special" making of things aswell apparently.
all i can say is the 5.1 version sounds waaay better than the stereo mix, even if i dont have a centre channel yet so a few bits sound a bit weird!

also has any one tried DDR (digital disc recordable)? its wat albums and original music are recorded on. i bought one yesterday and burnt my music on it and it siunded way better quality wise and i also burnt the same music on a CDR (compact disc recordable) and it sounded **** compared to the DDR. is that jus me or has ne one else tried this and can notice the differance.

hmm to record onto that sort of disc (DDR), i'm guessin yes it may be better, but also depends on wat quality music is being put onto it. yes if u were straight recording from stereo equipment onto that type of disc then u'd get all the advantages.
no a normal cd player wont play a DVD-A, and u'd only get the advantage with decent sound setup (obviously!), front and back as well as maybe a mid (or does it simulate the mid speaker, or just get rid of the centre totally?)

Just to extend what backspace said, no you cant use it in a normal cd player, just think of it as a DVD with no sound. And yes there is a mid, DVDA uses 5.1 (some may even use higher). It will also depend highly on how it's been recorded :).

how do you play yours then timbo?
Asylum
12-02-2006, 05:21 PM
yeah will only play on DVD players, and even still some are only designed for ones that are DVD-A compatible. (higher bitrate)
the one i got is encoded in 5.1 and stereo, in both DVD compatible and DVD-A formats (so 4 different types altogether)
