I have a problem... my revlimiter has stopped working, and there seems to be more power at about 7,000 rpm.
i was draggin this common*****, and i stayed in first a bit long (i thought) and i looked at the tack, and it was 7000 and it was not slowing like ususal.
anyway i tried again and it doesn't seem to be working, i have taken a short video today.
anyway i thought that the pic looked good. (i took a screenshot)

ok, before all of you ppl go telling me that it's photo shopped, it's not! and i have a video. this is a serious problem,, i know that the standard tack goes to 9,000 but i assume that it's not really good for my car?
Does anyone know how to fix the problem
(i have a video it's 600kb, if someone wants to host it)
Please help
What does your stock tachometer say?

it has not actually worked for a while? not to sure, but it has only happened today, normally the rev limiter comes on at about 6,800rpm (ish)

I believe RPW are making up a new oil catch can to catch the bits of conrod and piston that will come flyingout of the bottom of your sump. lol

My god that is a good line!
Common sense says reving any car to 9 Grand is a little silly. Especially when peak power for a magna is around 5500 or so...
Worth looking into, however can't tell you whats wrong....

i will have to attend the dyno day and find out if it has more power, it sure is cool to drive.
It's strange that the tacko goes up to 9 grand normally, i have been in my mates FTO and i think the red line only starts at about 8,500 RPM, it's a mitsu, they are quite similar, (slightly smaller capacity tho)
I will definatly look into it thanks blake, has there been anyone else who has had this problem, Perhaps it's cause it's manual, i dont think that an auto box could handle a input at 9,000 RPM,
... something to thinkabout. Anyone else got an idea

dude your gonna do some serious damage to the engine if you rev it past 7g, infact i think the red line is 6250!
FTO's can rev higher because they have a MIVEC engine, and are built to rev out.

have you checked the calibration of the tacho, get another tach and check it that way.

i'll bet there is something wrong with the tacho (read: calibration).... you'ld have to check with Dave, but i dont even think the fuel pump would supply enough fuel to allow that!!
And as for the FTO, yeah, its MIVEC!!! made to rev like bitches.. and even then i think they redline before 9000!!!

The fuel pump would provide more than enough fuel, the reason Dave blew his engine is because the fuel pump did not provide enough fuel under boost conditions.
You are right when you say check calibration however as I also stated in my post, although I guess stranger things have heppened before.

Imagine this... SOHC V6 3L MIVEC... REDLINE.... 9000RPM
Nick, maybe the tacho is stuffed?

hmm, yeah i spose so... i wasnt referring to dave's turbo setup going wrong.... its just that at WOT at 9000rpm its going to be sucking a crap load more fuel than 6000rpm at WOT!!!!
(oh and nick, you technically you might wanna change the to DOHC MIVEC, as SOHC MIVEC isnt going to do crap (at least not much, ask FORD about that and there VCT engines...)

I bounced my 3.0V6 TE off the rev limiter once (about 6800) didn't sound too nice at all. I'm not in a great hurry to do that again.
A mate of mine used to have an old XF Falcon.. he once had some severe electrical problems when one of the pistons knocked the alternator out of the engine bay. Rumor has it the tacho was showing some high numbers at the time.

it doesnt sound like its doing 9000 rpm tho ,
maybe it sounds different in person.

ok you started it at 3grand ?
It hasn't by any chance been setup to read a four cylinder engine?

This should answer your questions.
The weird noise just before 9K? Yeah, I was starting to wonder about that, but with all that music interfering it's hard to hear.

Man anyone who knows 2much would realise a few little noises like pistons popping through the bonnet to say Gday would not slow him down LOL
Have seen pics of a piston lying on a crankcase of his, if it revs he revs it......
Nick will be around on the weekend to check it, will see then.

Sounds VERY much like his changing gear around 5-6k rpm. Well, thats how my V6 sounds when i take it to 6k. It'd be screaming its tits off at 9k.
Looks very much like its sets for the wrong number of cylinders. Mate did it in his 6-Cylinder LJ Torana. Exact same effect. He had his stock 202 reving to 8.5k without even trying real hard.

thanks joe, Mal, anyway, SOME ***ER broke into the car tonight, smashing the drivers window and taking the tacho,
perhaps bad karma for playng games with you all (as it was calibrated to 4cyl) all the same, it look awesome, and if i had a full vid, it actuall started at 1,200 rpm
It was taken while i was parked infront of school, while the sun was out on a mian rd, honetly i cannot believe some ppl,
And more seriuosly for the ppl that know what is actually in my car, why they didnot touch anything else,
My digital video cam was sitting in the center consol, with my oakleys, not to mention what was sitting on the back seat. SOME PPL ARE JUST ***EN RUDE

Find them and kill them.
Yeah the taco looked good but people you need to listen to the engine. As said in a few other replies, there is no way that the engine is hitting 9k as it would be screaming its titties orf. Sounds closer to 6k.
Hope you get the buggers.

dude that sucks :(
also if you watched the video, u can see part of the standard tacho at one stage, if u turn up the brightness on it (its about the 8 sec. mark) u'll see it hitting 6k ;)
Looked cool on the monster tacho though :D
also, hope you get the shit(s) that broke into your car!! :(

ooooooh i want my tacho that revs upto 9grand again, it was too much fun. i got a couple of ppl with that.
I reckon it's good to set it like that, I call it value, at least you get to use 90% of the tacho, as before it was only reving to 6g mainly i could almost get it to 10g, that' looks crazy, and from idle it started at 1,200rpm.......
i checked my cutout the otherday, it is 6,800rpm, i have a 3.0 manual, it's done a few kays, but never had a drama.
