I was talking to a mechanic the other day about getting my car lowered cause atm it sits up like a monster truck, lol, he was telling me that the best time to lower the car is when the front struts need to be replaced and then you buy all your springs or whatever. can anybody tell me if this is true?

doesn't matter - if you want to lower it lower it - whack the springs in.
if your shocks are shagged, do it at the same time - doesn't really matter if you do them together, or separately - it just means it saves your mechanic changing the springs more then once when you replace the shocks.
True because theres a bit of labour involved with putting springs on. Replacing struts/shocks and putting springs on at the same time kills 2 birds with one stone.
Thats why if u do either one, u might as well do the other. Most people swap the shocks out anyway when they lower their car to get a better ride

If you do it yourself you save even more on labour ;)

Im not too sure on the expected life of standard shocks, but its definately worth the bit extra to replace the standard shocks once you have lowered your car.
