OK, just thought I'd let people know what I've heard in regards to a Ralliart 380...
At the moment Mitsubishi is planning to go ahead with it.
Body styling will more than likely use the body kit from the American Ralliart Galant (as seen in this thread: http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31302 ) which we should see actual pics of on the 11th of Feb (its being unveiled on the 10th at the Chicago auto show, US is a day behind us roughly)
Performance wise sounds disappointing... to get more power out of the engine, the air intake is being modified to get an extra 10kw, as apparently the stock air intake is very restrictive... I personally really hope they do more than just that...
Disclaimer: Any or all of these things are subject to change without notice. This is just what has been heard...

Interesting. They better pull out some better mods than that if they want to even attract people to the car. A "performance" version of the 380 "boasting" 185kW is not really that enticing IMHO.
I'm not talking personally either, I know kw doenst equal performance. I'm talking from a marketing sense.
That would be pathetic if all they do is change the air intake and call it a Ralliart. It wouldn't be worthy of the Ralliart badge even if it just has a different body kit. I'm pretty sure New Zealand 380 VRXs have slightly more power than Australia's own version. Come to think about it I think they may have also changed the air intake to get a few more Kws. At least they did more than MMAL to differentiate it from the other models albeit with just a few Kws difference.

kiwi's have different emisson standards, the TL range had 172kw's as standard over there from a re-designed intake, and im sure the 380 has been given the same treatment over there as well

You may be right there dude. lol . The point is at least they did that to the VR-X and not to the base models to differentiate the model lineup even if its just a few Kws difference.
No point buying the 380 VRX now if its slower than the base model just for the bodykit and slightly lowered springs. I mean, aren't the sportier versions meant to be more powerful or faster? I guess this has been debated many times over now..

Ralliart usually have a say in whether their badge can be used or not. I think it took some convincing for the Ralliart Magna to eventuate. Ralliart itself was actually owned by some dude and not MMAL. I'm not sure if / when it changed.

Ralliart is now a division of Mitsubishi Australia, so they can do what they like with it now. If they want to slap teh Ralliart badge on a 380 with a bodykit and a CAI they can do so.

Hmm... that's almost unfortunate. It's great they have it in the fold but sad that they can do what they want and not care about watering down the brand. You don't see HSV put poxy 6 cyls these days.

To be honest, I don't think they will water down the brand. The Ralliart Colt gets a turbo (despite the cars is dayum ugly in my opinion) which is a decent engine mod. From what I've read, Rob McEnriy (sp?) seems to be very conscious of brand imaging, hence no discounts on 380's (although the Ltd Edition 380 kind of goes against that idea) and trying to keep resale value up and completely seperate the 380 from the image of the struggling TL/TW Magna sales. So hopefully they will be aware if they do a dud Ralliart 380, it would ruin that brands image.
Best bet is to wait and see what the Ralliart Galant will be like, because I would say that will be a good indication for what we will get.

Toyota's new v6 is supposed to be pumping 200kw  Time will tell at 10am tomorrow.
Any news about putting the MIVEC engine in car, it produces around 194kw.
Ralliart Galant Concept was not a slow car - original specs had 0 - 100 km/h in bout 6.4 secs.
That would bett the SV6 etc.

They should have used the reviesed intake to pump out an extra 10kW on the VRX and GT.
The ralliart should be released with around 200kW to make it sound like a propper sporty proposition

0-100km/h in 6.4 seconds? Now that would be worth buying... when can I get one? :) If they put that MIVEC 3.8 in the Ralliart and brought it up to say 208kw, that would be one awsome car -- along with the option of AWD!

The scary thing is that the new 6L Commodore SS will get to 100km/h in 5.5 seconds! That's scary for Ford, Mitsubishi and Toyota fans!

Apples and oranges though, 6l V8 compared to a 3.8l V6...

Don't stuff it up MMAL well the Mitsubishi US stuff up there Ralliart Galant.

no dual exhaust, the new Ralliart Galant does not deserve to wear the ralliart badge.

New XR6T 6speed auto does similar 0-100kmh and quarter mile times.
One note though the new VE commondore has been stated as being around 180-200kgs heavier than the current VZ. If that is true the porky BA/BF foulcan will be about 60-80kgs lighter than it!

Scarey still is that the 3.5L VVTi Lexus IS350 engine in rwd form will pull a 0-100 in 5.3 seconds. http://www.lexus.com/models/is/performance.html
Whats the significance you ask? None yet, except from this in Goauto
The US Avalon’s Lexus-sourced, VVT-iequipped 3.5-litre V6 produces 200kW and 388Nm, and is paired with a five-speed automatic. However, Aurion is expected to feature a sixspeed auto
Obviously too early to tell what the major differences (if any) between the engine in the IS350 and the engine in the Aurion turn out to be, then you have weight, COD, blah blah blah differences. Also, toyota have kept rather mum over what the drive will be, I suspect it's sitting on widebody camry underpinnings, hence fwd, but you never know, could be sitting on Lexus GS/Toyota Aristo underpinnings (rwd)

Damn. Thats freakin quick for a 3.5L six. Seems like a pretty optimistic time which is usually the case from manufacturers claims.

Holy crap!!! The concept was so sexy, how could they do this. Our 380 VRX looks meaner then the production Ralliart Galant

While i like the 380 being underpowered is a bummer. I have also heard that fuel consumption isn't the best either. My mate bought a new commie based on that fact as well as price to. The new Hyundai Granduer is supposed to pump out 194KW! If mitsubishi don't hurry up they're going to be left behind...... so to speak.

Under-powered?
It has more power than a magna, AND who needs more power in a FAMILY SEDAN anyway?
People gotta realise they're not race cars, not everyone wants to reach 100 in 5 seconds.

Fair point although when everyone else has way more power than you (and I mean everyone else) people will wonder what's wrong. I agree that 190kWs is way too much for a basic Falcon but hey, that's what the market wants.

Well if I was chief engineer at Ralliart this is what I'b be thinking engine/drivetrain wise:
3.8L MIVEC, With the option of either the N/A motor or turbo'd and transplant an EVO 9 drivetrain into the thing. That'd make a true hero car :D I'd like to see anything from HSV/FPV try and keep up with that.
For an AWD to be feasible though MMAL would have to make a production model AWD, otherwise the cost of the Ralliart would astronomical!
Of course the track would be widened, fatten out those arches a bit with an argressive as kit, lowered and on 19's
..GONE..

Someone get the email address of a tech head or something at MMAL!
We're gonna try and do something.. although they probably can't afford to!
