Most probably not. The drives/ICs that give the current to the squibs that make the air bag go bang have built in test circuitry. One of the tests has most likely failed (eg no continuity between the squib and the IC).

Theres also the SRS system that determines when the airbag should be deployed, and no doubt that has some built in testing as well, so things could be bad there.

Take it to a dealer to get it checked. There really should be no messing when it comes to safety equipment.

The light is on because the SRS system as oicked up ab error.. you got very small chance it will fly out for nothing.. there is a way more higher chance that it wont work when you need it too..

Just get it looked at then all will be good..

Goodluck :D

Just a word of warning. If you drive with the SRS warning light on, or any of the system disconnected, the vehicle is declared uncompliant with the relevant ADRs and is thus unroadworthy. I was first told this when I wanted to fit a bullbar to my 121, no airbag compatible bars available for it. I have also seen a highly modified 200sx which had a CD stacker where the passenger airbag should be get and an aftermarket, non-airbag, wheel fitted. The SRS light was on and it through so many codes the test computer had to reset. the dealer refused to test drive on the basis that it was illegal and technically unsafe. Naturally you are allowed to drive to a workshop to get it fixed.

There is zero chance that the air bag will deploy.. (or as practically close as possibe)

When the SRS light is on, the sRS system is completely disabled. Best bet would be to get it to a dealership asap :)

Hey I was told this by 3 seperate rego inspectors and ACT Tech Standards. Me? I'm not going to argue, I've seen crash tests of certain cars that only passed because of the airbag.
Or are you referring to the 121? At the time I owned a 121 Metro and did lots of kays at night in the bush, rally officialling and Scouting.
