Hey guys,
Well i've seen a couple of nice KF veradas but i'm not sure if they're tiptronic or not. I have seen a few KJ verads with tiptronic and basically all i wanted in a car was the 3.5 and a tiptronic, so i'm thinking maybe an older verada now instead of the TH sports. What i was wondering, in the auto models is there much difference in power compared to the 2? Will a verada 3.5 auto still have more pull than a 3L auto?
cheers :).

KJ onwards have tip tronic. But the TH sports had it also (not KH verada)

crap :(. I've seen a nice KF in NSW for about $8k with full leather interior that looks really nice, but it's not tiptronic :(. Are the veradas much slower than the magna?
*edit*
I had my eyes set on a TH sports for $9k but someone bought it, so now i'm looking at other 3.5L options :).

Ok all i want to know now is, how is the performance like from the verada compared to a magna with the 3.5L in auto?

Their not bad at all performance wise, I hold my own against the tj magna vrx and i got a kh verada. You can't go wrong and for 8k. good value
In short, take any 3.5L auto and go for a drive. Then take a fat bastard (thats what I affectionately call my weight handicap over the normal magnas) and put him in the passanger seat, then go for another drive. That will be your difference in performance.
I can't quote 1/4 mile times, but the weight difference is about 120kg from memory, equivalent to your standard male fat bastard. Nothing else really changes (engine, trans etc)
Comparing my bros stock TH 3.5 auto to my TH 3.5 auto, i'd say theres a bit in it. The verada does feel heavier and a bit more sluggish, but its all give and take. Do you want a nice cruiser with leather, sun roof and all the nice stuff, or are you willing to forgo that for a slight performance increase.

Awesome i might take some more notice of KE/KF veradas then :).

Sort out whether you want an auto or manual first.
Auto's are slow by nature.. Auto tippy 7.7 - 8.0 (0-100) Verada add .3 - .5 seconds.. Its not that much of a muchness really...

lol coming from my TR which takes 12 seconds plus to reach 100, i dont think 8.5 seconds is going to matter too much to me :P. Cheers for that though Bain, didn't think it would be a huge difference.
And yes i want auto, as my GF has told me i can drive her manual if i get bored  .

Seeing as youre going auto, get a verada.. You can get them suprisingly cheap these days.

Best one i've seen is the one in NSW, KF with just over 100k kms for $8k with full leather. Looks really nice. Havn't seen a KE+ hit less than $8k though, so i may be getting the sports after all. Will have to see which one i like pops up first :). Thanks for your help.
I think the stock 0-100 is quoted as 9.5. With my muffler on a cool night I could get 8.9.
Trust me, I wish I had a manual. Thats the biggest draw back for my car.
IMHO, if you can't stretch to a KH Xi, don't bother. Thats where sunroofs and leather first enter into the magna line (you saw leather, so I'm probaby wrong :)). A TH manual sports or above exec would probably have similar kit to a KE/F verada, and be manual :) It probably wouldn't have the smaller nice stuff, but have the majority like power windows, maybe cruise, climate control etc.

Just a quick question, how much is a KE 1996 with 200,000 kms worth? There's a guy down in vic selling one for $8k price negotiable but it's an XI and it has full leather. It's white and looks in very good condition! Was thinking of offering him $6,500, is this too low?

You could try that, but I think realistically he'd probably sell at $7,250. Might be able to squeeze a bit extra.
Also, go the verada, you wont regret it, they're pimptastic  and it's real easy to clean off those unwanted bodily fluids from the back seat
You'll be hard pressed to find tip tronic for under 8k, but have you considered the auctions? It's going to be your best bet. Damaged and written off cars can also be good if you're prepared to put in a bit of work, there was a bloke on here (forget who) who got a TJ VRX for somethign cheap and fixed it all up, from memory cost him about 9 grand? all up.

If yor budget permits try and go for a kh/th, as the auto's are known for failure in earlier models.
My mate now owns the verada you see in my profile, it's a 97 with leather and sunroof. It has quad exhaust and extractors, he is moving overseas and wants to sell soon..... not sure how much he wants. I miss it, only reason I sold it was to get a manual

Also with lowering, do you just use standard magna lowering springs and does the verada have any suspension stuff i can damage by lowering? Sorry i dont know SFA about veradas. But the leather ones do look pimp :). And i love how you get paras etc. all standard. I'm guessing cruise control would be standard also?

It's all the same when it comes to that. Veradas are just a better looking magna lol

I'd also like to port over the rear lights of the KJ/boot lid. I reckon they look better. Was never a big fan of the bumpers, but lately they're grown on me (well i saw muzza's and  ) They look awesome dumped with rims.
