I haven't touched the vrx in terms on mods apart from stereo.

Does anyone know what basic mods work effectivly on the 3.5 Sports/VRX engines?

I was thinking:

1. K&N Panel Filter (I live in a dusty area, cant have pod :( )
2. Lukey High Flow Muffler
3. Fuel Regulator
4. Unichip (dyno tuned to 98ron fuel)

Is there anything I should add before I get the unichip dyno'd? Nothing too expensive...

Tuned length extractors are the only other basic mod I can think of before getting the unichip.

1st.... you already have a high flow muffler, so any muffler changes will be purely cosmetic (sound and looks)...

after that, i'd do the filter and then extractors!!! then i'd do the throttle body (see RPW website.... and in forums for Mitsiman's posts)

Only after these would i consider the Unichip... these mods will allow the unichip to be tuned to greater extremes than before!!

I'm with dingo.. those are exactly the mods I plan to do to my TJ Sports.. air filter (probably panel at this stage), extractors, high-flowed throttle body.. then maybe a chip of some kind.

I'm with you guys on this.
I have fitted extractors, the UNICHIP is next. Have also upgraded to Ralliart brakes. The extractors do make a difference mid range and also slightly to exhaust note.
Cant wait to get the thing "chipped"

If this helps
I have a TJ Sports in Manual trim.
Performance mods done to the car;
K and N POD Filter DIY Heatshield (6-8 degrees lower in temp)
RPW Short Shifter (Recommended, unless your car is a Tippie)
VTW FPR (Got the looks and it's 2 way valve)
RPW Extractors (I highly recommend this!!!)
MagnaFlow High Flow Cat
MagnaFlow Muffler (Another good recommendation)
RPW Stage 2 Cams, Springs, Adjustable Cam Sprockets (Can't tell u until it's tuned :p )
Apexi RSM-GP with G sensor for the Kool Factor (I'm sure u know this)
Apexi SAFC-II GT LE (I'm sure u know this too)

Still Mucking around with the Power FC....

Jeez MagnaV6Sports13! thats an impressive list!

I thought the Sports/VRX comes with extractors, thats why they have more power than the stocko magna??

Also I heard that the stock muffler is not straight through hence changing will give a little bit better flow.

Revised list:

1. K&N Filter
2. Extractors
3. Straight Through Muffler
4. FPR
5. tb (maybe)
6. Unichip (dyno'd)

VRX standard extractors? nope, same as stocko 155kW magna's....
and the stock VRX/sports muffler is a straight through unit!!!

(there have been a lot of questions about this on various forums and this is based on replies from Lukey, who make the genuine exhaust systems for mitsubishi)

so....

As Dingo said. Their is a difference between the two mufflers. Mitsu get their mufflers from Walker who make Lukey. My bolt on is about two thirds the length. Mine isn't straight through center to center but it's straight and I think you'll find the VR-X is similar. Waste of time and money swapping it. Stuff all performance wise in difference and it's probably noisier.
