I had the lukey and K&N panel filter fitted to my TJ2 today. Hope it makes a difference to economy, I can't notice much in performance.

What's next guys? Where do you recommend from here? (Please don't say springs, as I'm really enjoying the ability to enter and exit driveways, after the last car!).

Should I change the resinator? I noticed that it's not big, but is it still too restrictive? Maybe a dog, instead?

Hi xman

The exhaust system on the TJ2 is quite good as it is.

Are you now getting any 'drone' from the exhaust, or any flat spot in acceleration around 1500rpm?

It may be that the increase in air-flow from the Panel filter has leaned out the air fuel mixture, and you just need to tune for performance.

One way is to have extra engine management fitted at around $1000 to $1500.

Another way is to DIY the Fuel Rail Kit for $55, or the complete DIY performance package that includes full electrical and ignition upgrade for $165

These Kits are self tuning from the standard ECU and do not require any further adjustment.

Let me know if you need more info

Sounds like music to my ears, how difficult is it to install and what is expected to happen..

Well it's not difficult if you have basic mechanical ability & tools. For the Fuel Rail Kit it's easier than replacing your rear spark plugs, which I believe everyone can learn to do to save money on servicing costs. The electrical & ignition upgrade is even easier - you don't even need to disconnect the battery (no need to reset the ECU or stereo memory settings, etc)

and what is expected to happen.

With the Fuel Rail Kit by itself you will get more throttle response than you could ever get with normal cold fuel, especially around 1500 - 2500rpm

The ignition upgrade kit solves the problem of inaccurate exhaust timing.

Combine the two kits together and you have an engine with a fatter torque curve that starts at 1900rpm and can flatten hills easily on 2200rpm at 115Kph

With a 3.5 t/tronic this is a huge improvement, as previously the torque band started at around 2400rpm, and I had to exceed the speed limit to make hills (the t/t cannot access 4th gear)

The 3.0L auto has nearly the same performance, and I believe the 3.5L manual exceeds all expections

BTW before anyone says " have you got dyno figures to back it up" believe me you will feel the difference from the turn of the key - rock solid idle, you only need to press half as much on the pedal to get off the mark, good exhaust tone and no 'droning' from the Lukey.

Best of all is that extra push in the back from your seat

No drone, in fact don't notice ANY difference in sound from standard. No flat spots. I think now that I've put a few k's on the clock, it's starting to sink in...... I'm still comparing it with the old VT. When I fitted the new exhaust to it, there felt like a massive difference.
But with the magna, the exceleration is much smoother. I think that's why I didn't notice it at first. Economy is far better, too. :P
