I have been reading all about this balance shaft removal thingy so I decided what the hey, give it a go.
I have little knowledge but thought as I do not have to put the things back on again should be easy.
I have a little problem now but, the car will not start and is making banging noises. The banging is gettng quieter but still will not start.
Can anyone help me please.
I have put in a pic of what I took out, the belt thing was what I was told to cut off.

perhaps if it's not completley ****ed already, then you should try replacing the important bits, like the cam belt, the pulleys, the alternater belt, and perhaps the balance shafts, i think that you'll find Mitsu put then there to do a job (or for some reason),
Given there are some obvious ones, like the cam pulleys, and there belt ( and the correct timing settings.....) alternatoer, so we can continue this after a nice drive...
I suppose that th balance shaft is a bit different? i cant see the point, may as well leave it out,
If it only goes bang once a year, it's a good year

Man thanks for the fast reply, being new here i was not sure how long it would take.
The generator is on again so are the other things i just had this pic while I was doing it.
What are cam pulley's? isn't the cam down the bottom or something.

OMFG....i hope this is a joke otherwise your in deep 5HIT
That banging is probably your valves punching holes in your pistons.
That is a v6...they don't have balance shafts OMFG please tell me this is a joke. :?

AussieMagna Mod of the year award goes to...
sorry dude...i knows its not nice...but id recomend you go get a few nice dollars (work or loan)...get ya car towed to a performance workshop and say 'fix it...and make it *** fast'
Even if this is a joke it's very funny.
If this is for real then I'm gonna suffocate from laughter
Oh, I heard those camshaft things are the V6 equivalent of the balance shafts

ok ppl = just chill ok - due to some bad advice given to some - if this is a true case - he has been mislead in the wrong way possible.
I severly suggest you get a qualified mechnic out to look at it ASAP!!
I never suggest any person under go mods that they are not sure of - I personally always put a lot of research into something before I do it!!
I hope this is a jk, but i think it may be a true post - in which case - he does not need personal attacks made against him - he is looking for serious advice as to how to fix the problem that has been created.

ok fair enough. if this is legit then tell us what you actually took off and how. what have you got back on and what happens when you turn the starter over?

maybe he is just new to the game - i tell you what - 18 months ago i probably would have been in his position - it takes time and ppl to teach some one how things work and what is good and bad - so don't go dissing the guy because he made a mistake - i have made plenty in my car as well!!
He is here to learn as are lots of other members. I don't want this turning into a flame war again!!! Lets just see if we can't help this guy understand what he did wrong so he knows why he shouldn't have done it - ever heard from learn from your mistakes?? It doesnt help if you have heaps of ppl baggin you out for it.

Gremlin, I am sure you were a novice once, like the time when you bere a baby and your mother spoon fed you.
WHy attack this guy for reading many posts on something and giving it a go? He should have done a hell of a lot more research, I agree there, but he has now dig his hole, admitted he screwed up and has now asked us for help....give the guy a go, I have seen many many posts of stupidity here that we could have had a field day with but did not. Are we all not meant to be helping each other.
As for the post, firstly the 2.4 and 2.6 4 cyl magna's have balance shafts, from what I can tell of your pic you have a TS 3.0
As asked, what have you taken off and what have you put back on?
The 2 shafts at the top are in fact cam shafts, not balance shafts. These engines are called interferance engines, ie; the valves will hit pistons if the cam timing is wrong or a belt breaks.
As stated you do not have balance shafts so my guess would be the pistons have tapped a couple of valves, only a few are open at one time and being crank only situation I would be stunned if there is any piston damage.
Do not crank it, it will not go, take it to a mechanic or get someone who has an idea to give you a hand.

Yeah Sorry :? Just couldnt stop laughing when i read his post and saw the pic :D
I totally agree, help the guy but i think the best bit of advice to give him is to get his car to a GOOD mechanic ASAP!!
Actually, how could this not be a joke?
The intake manifold is off and the lower manifold covered up and the camshaft gears have been taken off.
If this person had no knowledge and just the belt was supposed to be removed ("the belt thing was what I was told to cut off."), why would all these other things be off?

Ok time to come clean,
I did post this for a laugh. But I also posted this to show us all that some ppl will read 2 lines and think they have the nstant solution.
You can see that I sucked some in here and I also hope gave everyone a damn good laugh as well.
The thing is that I am getting sick of people posting in these forums with little mechanical knowledge, getting the opinion of those of us who have either been in the trade for a long time or have played with our cars and then get offended and start acting like 2 year olds.
We need to give the guys that do not know much a better go and I am also guilty sometimes of ripping ppl over silly things however that having been said someone comes here, asks advice then has a cry when we tell them the clear simple facts.
This is not being pointed at anyone in particular here, we all know who we are, just because person x thinks he can do something, it may be a good idea to tell person x what we think or if we have a particular reason to why the idea is not a good idea it is our duty if we wish to participate to nicly expalin why what they are doing is a bad idea.
Again it is also up to person x to understand and be adult enough to at worst agree to disagree and not have a hissy fit at those who point out when an idea can end in tears.
As I said, I hope you all got a laugh from this but I also hope that you all got something from this. We are a small community, let's all try and stick together no matter what we think and try and help each other. If one of us does make the big blunder, instead of flamming the living daylights out of that person let's help them resolve it and get over it.
BTW this down not apply to dodgy gear changes Booys lol only kidding mate.
BTW Mig, great job in taking good notice of the details, the reason I take the manifold off during cam belt changes BTW is if the rocker cover has to come off to lock cams it is easier and also gives the oppertunity for a TB clean

Anyway next question....
I cut the belt off but I couldnt see the balance shaft thingie....
I was wondering if some one could point it out on the second pic...
I find now that the car has the same type of symptons as in the first post :(
Can you please show me which one I need to disconnect... to get ths going..

anyways, i dont know a lot about cars either but after reading all the other posts about taking bits out to improve performance, i thought id take it one step further. i just went ahead and took the hole engine out! i figure mitsubishi only put it there for looks and with all that extra weight gone from the car its got to go faster now, doesnt it? only problem is though im having a bit of trouble getting it started. i think it might be an electrical problem. any ideas?

Well not mine..but that's the same as the one I have in my garage :D
I though this sounded like a good idea too, so I removed my engine and replaced it with some of this.............................................. ....
