Well ive done a search and i really couldnt find what im after.
I know how to get everything out and what not, im just wanting to know how i go about painting it.
I saw something about cleaning the parts with something and sanding with a fine sandpaper or something.
Is there a tutorial on here somewhere that i missed.
Plz help.
Thanks in advance.
Kyle.

Exactly what part of your dash are you painting? I have a white TF too, and can't really see how you would paint the dash (maybe the console???). Not too sure how the paint would go on the vinyl...
And what colour you looking at painting it???

take it out,
make sure its all clean, no dust and ****,
give it a coat of coulour, let it dry
give it as many caots as you want letting it dry inbetween caots
then do the same with a clear coat paint
dont need to sand down **** really, i didnt, and mine came out shweet

I was thinking about doing the same with mine too. What sort of paint do u use (ie. gloss/matt?, spray can/tin paint). i just wanna make sure that i know what im doing before i do it because if i stuff it up i don't wanna be having to buy the pieces again. Before painting it is there any preperation needed to be done to the surfaces being painted? MRMGNA said he was told to lightly sand it but bob_saget u said u don't need to?

Sanding isn't essential unless you need to make the surfaces smooth and flat.
You just have to be sure everything's clean so the paint will stick to it.
Give it a quick wipe with metho or isopropyl alcohol.
Many many applications, each of them very thin, are what I'd recommend for a nice, uniform finish. Let the paint dry between each coat. This way you won't get any paint runs.

Is there a certain type of paint needed for this project, or just go down to your local Autobarn and purchase some paint there?

yeh mate any paint you want really, if you want to be really pedantic about it, you could sand it down, then use a primer, sand that, then do your coulour layers, sanding inbetween them and then the same with your clear coat, it would come up an absolute treat but, it would take aaaaages, and well, yeh, how i didi it worked reallly well to i think

easy, use prepsol, or wax and grease remover.
Prime
Paint (i used a few touch up paint cans, but any $2 aussie export paint will do)
Clear Coat.
no need to sand, although i had to becuase my can decided to blob up and fk up all my work
make sure you let it dry for a good 2-3 days or use something like a heat gun to make it stick.
v v easy

i did this last week but red in a TF it looks sweet (i also did around the dials too) its easy to do if u dont rush like i did (oh yeah if u use an acrylic paint make sure it dries completly before u spray clear coat on it or it'll spot the paint (problem i had)

hey all, i will be doing this soon.
i am not sure whether to do the console that i have in my car at the moment, or go to a wreckers and pick up another console and do that. that way i wouldnt be fked if i stuff it up, just not sure how much they would try to charge me at the wreckers for the peices.
if its a 2nd gen it would be under $40, well where i go it is
the door trim i got was $7, i think, so the console wouldnt be much more

a word of advice dont get cheapo paint. i got cheap paint for mine from supercheap and it looked **** house. After seeing WTCHME's console i went down to a hobby shop and got me sum really good glossy paint that ppl use to detail model cars and aeroplanes. its a lil bit expensive but u will see the differance. the paint is much smoother and much more glossy. i think the paint i used was a TAMIYA brand.
cheers

i posted this somewhere else but cant remember where
i got a paint joint to paint all mine , the entire centre console, air con vents , the bits behind the door openers and the bits around the power window buttons and the power mirror switch
put a stack on paint on and a few coats of clear over the paint so it's does'nt scratch or wear off as quick
all that for $140 ... best dollars spent

I was just wondering if any of you have sold your cars after painting the insides.
And how much does it devalue the car as few people would want one with a home paint job that will probably get dirty, get scratched and chip easily?

Ill have to get some photos of it today.

yeah man, get photo's. what colour did you end up doing it???
mine is white now i think it looks so much better then stock, spent a bit of money on paints though... about $60
went through 4 cans of tamiya paint(Great stuff) very good quality, but then agaion you would want good quality for $10 per 100ml.
i did gloss over the top and i think its great, adds depth to the paint and doesnt really reflect all that much which i was afraid of.
but yeah, get the pics up

I'd love to see pics!
is yours a 2nd gen?
i have a 2nd gen and used the power plus touch up cans, like $8 for a can, i went this way becuase the dash and console pieces are actually grainy, not smooth, so im guessing it made no difference if i used tamiya paint or not.....but in sun this b**ch sparkles:D
I would love to see a brushed metal interior for a Magna. Thats what i would do it it was possible :)

I would love brushed metal thats the ultimate look :)
I think i will paint mine this weekend, gonna go a gun metal grey or a darker silver as i don't want it to stand out too much like white, Will post up pics if i do it :)

That looks awesome MRMGNA nice work :)
Hey just a question, i am going to paint mine on the weekend and yes white looks good especially on a white magna like mine but i want to be a little more subtle about it, do you think a metallic gun metal grey or a darker silver would look ok?? I wan't to keep it close to original colour but add some shine and make it look better...
Thanks!

I have done this to my 2nd gen and it came up so sweet. I did the dash cluster also.Which with its textured plastic came up looking better than expected. With the rest of the interior I did some spary putty after cleaning it and then sanded that back.A bit extra work but the final appearance well worth it.. The main reason i did this was because when a mate did it he didnt realise he had fine scratch marks and when painted they showed up more.

Here is a pic of my console which has been painted and clear coated over the weekend and i just finished putting it all back together which was a prick of a job! The only problem i have is the bottom right corner of the vents in the middle of the console clips in but doesn't sit flush? Dunno what the go is but owell. The only thing i have left to do it paint the part surrounding the speedo which i will do ina few weeks time!

The 2nd one is just to show the side vents aswell! It looks really good in the flesh so to speak!
