To set the timing on a TR 4cyl, is it just the clip on the dizzy you have to unclip so you can twist it?

Also I know there is something you have to earth before you set the timing but not sure what it is.

your timing needs to be 5 degrees BDTC unearthed.
and 13 Degrees BDTC earthed..i think.. i know my V6 is 15degrees..
and yes there is something you have to earth... do you have the haynes manual?? it shows it all in there!!
btw set the timing to 5 degrees Unearthed! then check that when you earth it that the motor timing moves to 13 degrees

Ignition Timing setting from the Mitsubishi Service Manual.

Ensure enigne is at operation Temp and all lights and accessories are off(including cooling fans)

Check Idle speed is correct (800+-50rpm)

Earth the Advance cut terminal. (white wire on firewall passenger side)

Check timing with timing light. Should be 5deg BTDC +- .5deg

Disconnect jumper lead. Timing should advance to 13deg BTDC +- 2deg.
