well i installed my el gauges 2day. and they are wicked. as others have said speedo readin is wrong but ye jus do MPH X 20 and you get ur current speed in KMPH. here are sum pics which are not of best quality but ye its really kool. o and also id like to thank CHANTRA for sacrificing his gauges and lettin me take it of him. plus they look better in the car then in a plastic bag chantra :bowrofl:
Cheers

mph x 20? umm no, and its not even x 2, so i hope u realise the actual conversion :O
but yeah otherwise lookin nice :)

actually im not sure if you want me to tell you its not MPH x 2, cos not knowing could save you your licence :P
(can just imagine your delight when driving past a speed camera at 60MPH in a 100kph zone and it not flashing!)
As a quick calculation, for converting MPH into KPH divide by 5 and times by 8 :)
EDIT: oh dear god i spot a monster tacho
..GONE..

Or you could just times it by 1.6...
Definetely look the goods! Nice work!!!

ohk these has been gone over time and time again.
IT IS Actually x2 due to the different speedo's
US up to 220kms AUS up to 240KMS

yeap MR BISHI is right. to actually see if this was correct i made a mark where 80kmph was on the original speedo and also did 50 as well coz those are my normall travelling speed and its very accurate i must say. 40mph was right ontop of 80kmph and i measured all the digits upto 120mph and its all good. so wat u do in MPH u multiply by 2. but jus to confirm 100% dads mate is a HW patrol and has a speed radar and will be cummin over on saturday so will do sum tests but not speeding ofcoarse.

no as mr bishi said there the wrong dails for the car the calculation from mph to kph is
mph X 1.61 = 100mph X 1.61 = 161kph, but as your dails are wrong that calculation wont work for you.

thats wat i meant. but i think i didnt put it right  the multiply by 2 works for out car but ye actuall conversion is kph is mph X 1.61 = 100mph X 1.61 = 161kph

CHRIST !!
First of all - they look ****hot!! Well done, Ash...
To all the others who are not realising what you are saying about miles x 2 etc...: Its the markings on the dials which are positioned wrong!! Duhh
:D
I am glad you like them, Ash....
Cya soon !

For KPH, on these dials just look at them. See the smaller red numbers just inside the larger ones, thats KPH. No conversion, no guessing.

Wrong again....those numbers simply DO NOT FIT a Magna or Verada.
Neither the small or the larger numbers.both are wrong!

I think dave might have a point....you said you wanted to hook them on your dimmer....was that possible at all?

Read through this for sale thread. I just got these gauges last week, and sent member Happy TH a PM as he said he recalibrated the speedo to work accurately, and also hooked it up to the dimmer. Hey Ash, where did you hook up the power wires to? I was planning to just connect them up to the wires coming out of the dimmer, as that should make it work with the dimmer.
Happy said he was gonna take out his gauges and take some photos, and hopefully write up a how to. Apparently he changed the value of one of the resistors in the speedo? That actually made it accurate as to the Kph reading on the speedo.

True, I might be misquoting, can't remember what he said exactly... Maybe replaced a resistor? Anyway, if you read the thread, he did actually recalibrate it correctly.

Hi, Yes I did modify the speedo so that the EL gauges work accurately. I still have them in the car and they are accurate. Its been a while since I did the modification to the speedo so I cannot remember exactly which resistor I had to change and what values I put in. I had also done something to eliminate the push switch and somehow connect it with the speedo lights. I will have to remove the speedo out again to check exactly what I had done. I will try and remove it this weekend and can take some pictures to show you. Very Nice gauges though. and cheap too. Regards
Looking at Ashneel's pics, now I'm even more impatient to get them in!

Too true lol I had the same ones in my car for about 5 months but the glare at night was crazy so I removed them. Gave me headaches after long spells at the wheel.
As for the mph/kmh thing. Just DOUBLE the mph reading on THESE dials to get your kph reading. So when the needle points at 60mph, your doing 120kph. Simple. The kph markers on these dials are wrong.

You could always get the cluster modified/calibrated so that the MPH readings become correct Km readings. Either way they look tacky, too bright, and are cop magnets, not to mention unroadworthy.

was goin to but then decided not to so jus hooked it up with the power from my Tacho (which u can see on the right :D) so if ne thing goes wrong all that will happen is the after market tacho fuse will blow leavin my carcircut safe. but ye its bright as but after the first 5 min of driving ull get used to it.
thanks for all the positive feedback guys. they really are awsome and would resomand them for all.
Looking at Ashneel's pics, now I'm even more impatient to get them in! take ur time in doing it. and dont bother bout takin the needles out coz sum ppl here when they took there needle out forgot how much fuel the had which stuffed that up and also sum times the needle gets pushed in to mush and gets stuck but take ur time and all will be good.

my tints are pretty dark so at night u cant see them much from outside. they look like a normal dash from the outside.

How did you put it on without removing the needles?
HyperTF
14-02-2006, 10:28 AM
He was right when he said you times it by 2 with these gauges but not in it's mathematic conversion which you are picking up on, but by its needle position on the gauge...
Have a look at it... when you are doing 60mph (according to the gauge) the needle is at 12o'clock which if you notice on your stock gauges from memory at 12o'clock you will be doing 120km/hr... so 60 on the gauge x2 = 120km/hr
At least that is how I remember them being when I was looking into it. He was not meaning conversion, he meant by reference point.

Ashneel, did you resolve the issue that these gauges have/had with the dimmer? I just remember people having issues wiring them in and it had something to do with the dimmer dial/switch thing.
Can someone please remind me what the issue was with these and wiring.

i didnt hook it up to the dimmer. i was goin to but decided not to coz if theres a short circut ill be stuffed so jus hooked it onto the power for my After market tacho. i remember reading sumwhere that if u hook these up to the dimmer switch its not good or sumting like that.

How did you put it on without removing the needles?
these gauges are realy flexiable so this is wat i did:
the fuel gauge: i bent it jus a lil to slide the needle through the hole and jus pushed it gently till the whole needle was in and cliped the gauage in.
the speedo: turned the needle manually to 120kmph (to not put preassur on the needle, jus move it with ur finger) and repeat the process with the fuel gauage but didnt have to bend it.
RPM: same as above
temp gauage: same as the speedo. its really really simple. if ur in melbourne drop me a PM and ill help u out.
