Unless you have an audio IN jack on the front panel like some of the TJ's had... Better off to use an FM modulator.

cheers people,
I'm guessing an 'fm modulator' will alow the ipod nano to transmit to the car radio & play it from there??

if you are prepared to spend the money on a new head unit and one other bit you need do this
this is how i have it in my TH

as you can sorta see the ipod is in one of them phone holders that expands, and then i have it going to the normal 3mm headphone socket to an RCA male end which plugs into this

that cost me around 35 or something from WOW sight and sound. You can pick them up on ebay too. They then plug into any newish pioneer head unit
i have The Pioneer dehp5750 http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f384/darcy6/deh_p5750mp_front_041108.jpg.
If You Need Any other info ask me. I do think this is a best way to hook up the ipod in the car and have good quality sound. IMO the FM transmittes suck. The SQ is crap!

I'm using a similar set up to that above, but I have an Alpine 9835 head unit, and the ipod connector which plugs straight into the alpine stacker connection.
My ipod plugs into the cable, and the ipod is then controllable through the headunit, so I dont even have to mount the ipod! The stacker connection also charges it, leaving my ciggarette lighter free :)
P.S. I even have the same air freshener as above in my TH..

If you have the stock head unit in, all you need is a lil cable, 3.5mm to 2.5mm jack. Most hifi/appliance stores should have one lying around. One end into your pod, one end into the front of your headunit!
(I'm assuming the TL unit is the same as the TJ, by the way)
The Aux In on the front my headunit is about the only thing I like about the stocko headunit...
