ok im gonna start on my boot install ...... anyone got any tips or stuff they can share that they have pearnt from doing it themselves?
my plan is,
make a fake floor to sit over the amps and have it covered in white vynal... and have the back wall with white vynal also right infront of my 2 subs ........ paint the side walls white with carpet paint... then once everything is snug and fits nicely ill pass on the vynal parts to an air brusher... and get an AL CAPONE gansta portrait with dark yellows black and browns ( u know so it looks really old and almost like its burnt into the vynal? )
and yeah thats my plan http://67.18.37.14/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif...http://67.18.37.14/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif i have 99% of it all sitting at home just waiting for me to do it ... it shouldnt cost me no more than 200 bucks from the prices i have sourced http://67.18.37.14/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
oh and b4 u say why go white ..... my speed dials because the car is a "sports" it came with white dials .. so ages ago i retrimmed my doors with white vynal ... and im planning on white seat covers and white boot to match .....
white looks pimpn aslong as u take care of it

thats along the lines of what i want just more of a view of the body and probably a tommy gun and a more arrogant look incorporated hehe
make a false floor to sit over the amps? huh? you definately need to think about cooling, and possibly a glass window for pimpin' purposes :P
i hated working with vinyl on my first boot install. It annoyed the crap outta me. Make sure you get a very good contact adhesive for your vinyl. Best to glue AND staple where you possibly can. It helps to have a heat gun around to heat up the vinyl, as its easier to work with and easier to stretch when hot. Remember, DON'T use spray oh adhesive you can find at bunnings. Its CRAP. I went to clark rubber, and they gave me this tub of stuff..you just have to hold onto the vinyl for a long time :P
You need to think about spare wheel access when u make your boot install too. You sub box dimensions, amp locations, if they're gonna get scratched if u put stuff in your boot, cables, ground points etc. Also have a think about securing everything. Make sure you secure everything, such that it they won't move even if you have an accident.
Don't rush anything. Take your time, especially cutting out panels to fit snugly. Grab a few old boxes, flatten them out and make a template first. DOUBLE CHECK or things will get very expensive very quickly. the 3rd gen floor isn't flat, and the stupid wheel jack protrudes out quite a fair bit. I'm very tempted to attack it with an angle grinder, but for safety purposes, i won't.

hey thnx for the tips!
im not to sure what to do about keepoing the amps cold ... as one of my amps do get quite hot
im planning on having the vynal floor and wall all as one piece just joined together by a few hinges, it should all fit nice and snug and can also be easily taken out if i need the spare,
wiring earthing etc aint a propblem just tuck it under the floor leave as is
once i get it all set right ill them bass the vynal floor and wall onto the air brushing guy and he can do his thing...... im thinking maybe a black light would make it even better for the fact of the boost install being white with black subs and the airbrusging being mainly black

could possibly use a computer fan or 2 to blow air round the amps to keep them cool. It'd be easy to hook it up so that it comes on when the amp turns on and as they operate on 12V DC it'd be easy as. Would have to put in some vents though.

i had a friend of mine do his boot in white vinyl, and he brought 4 black light tubes to find that his white vinyl didn't glow. lol....hilarious really.
The problem with hinges (if you're hideously pedantic or disturbed) you're find the hinges need a little gap in order to move, which might annoy you. I'd just trip it with vinyl, and let the vinyl wrinkle and move when u move the hinge...there are a few installs which have a rippled/scrunched/waved vinyl trim, instead of a neat, flush trimmed panel (if u get what i mean)
For cooling, hook up a relay to some 12v computer case fans. They should be cheap (under $10 for like a 8cm one) You need a minimum of two (one to push air, the other to suck air) and a vent/grill to let air in and out.
Want the burnt effect? Pour some metho on vinyl and light it, see how it goes. It might bubble though. Maybe burn a piece of paper and throw it at the vinyl? It should look like a realistic 'burn' mark, however the vinyl may bubble/crack due to the heat. :P

lol
it pretty much would be poitive to negative i think. If there's an accesories wire to the amps (allows current flow when key is in ignition) then that'd be your positive and the negative would just be earthed somewhere on the body. That way the fan'd come on whenever the key is in the on or acc position. I'm pretty sure that there is an acc wire to most amps. I may be wrong though. lol

yeah, pretty much. the acc wire to the amp will be from the headunit. it will switch on the relay.
never power anything off the remote wire off the headunit though. always use a relay. you can easily tap power off the main power cable to your amps for the relay :)

back on to the fake floor question, you will have to install some sort of fan, i have a custom boot install, all fully done by myself. I will be interested to get some feedback when i show you guys when i come on my first cruze.
anyway, i have an amp box with 2 amps and it have 2 perspex windows on the top so you can see the amps. all along the front of the box i have 4 12V fans running, couple to get fresh air in and a couple to take hot air out. they are wired up to the cigerette lighter so that they atomaticallly come on when i turn the key to acc.
hope this helps

phwwaar, how much extra cable did u use? lol
its just more practical to wire it up to your remote wire, coz your amps won't be on if your headunit isn't. Plus, there's no point cooling your amps if they're not on...and unnessecarily wearing out the fan. Ah well.
Any pics of it though? :D
I got over the whole glass thing with mine :P so i got rid of it.

well i figured im only going to be listening to my radio with the car on, so when ever acc is on the radio will be on so they will need cooling....
and ill get some pics one day, couldnt be bothered at the moment. but i love it, so so proud of it :D

see if you can get a UV bulb for a torch or something and then you can test the vinyl out before you buy it to see if it shows up under UV

I don't know i have no idea. I brought the 4 tubes of flexiglow UV tubes. Hooked them up, threw it in his boot, and nothing happened. Just looked kinda purple. Meanwhile, my white socks seemed to glow, so I'm pretty stuffed on what went on there myself.
The problem with UV paint is that you will need to apply it in a VERY EVEN coat, or else some areas will appear brighter than others.
I'm not trying to steer u away from this UV glow idea, just saying it might be difficult to achieve. Anyhows, bring a UV tourch into a store and see if it glows before you purchase it.
I say, gold vynil material, like the metallic handbags u see chicks walk around with. That would be something 'different' to see in a boot install :)
