Ive looked through the first 15 pages of this section and given up looking.
Im just wondering if I can just get an alarm installed into my 97 Magna TF Exec without having to add anything else. Some places said that I may need to install some sort of motor if my cars central locking was not compatible with their system. Im getting my new car tommorrow, and will not have a chance to have a look at anything until then. However I want to book it in for an alarm asap since where I park it at work is a bit dodgy. Im not very good with the car lingo, so keep it simple :)
Also what alarm would you recommend, I have a limited budget and theres a Hornet one that is around 200 dollars installed that my gf has in her car, it seems to work fine. All the others seem to have battery backup and around the 350 installed. Its only a $6500 dollar car, is it worth getting an expensive alarm for it?
Thanks in advance

mm doesnt really help. Didnt even get a quote from any of those brands.
give the nrma a buzz. i have a nrma alarm system in my TE. If you have a policy with them it might work in your favour as well. They're not expensive, but im not too sure on how complex they are to integrate with the immoboliser/central locking.

didnt fully understand what you wrote... but i have the factory alarm system in my car.... i added a pager alarm on top of the factory alarm because i use to park it on the street... so if anyone touched, knocked, banged, smashed... i'd know.. if my engine started, it will tell me...
so its def a handy unit....

These cars use a standard negative ground switched relay for their central locking; it will be compatible with pretty much every remote central locking/alarm unit on the market.
I suggest brands to use are: Viper, Hornet, Clifford, Black Widow, Brant. You should get what you're looking for, easily for <$300 installed.

Hmmmm It's only a 6,500 dollar car. It might only be that now but what's it going to be worth in the future. If you live in Sydney and have to park it out on the street I'd be getting an alarm regardless on how much it is That is the alarm and the car. Did u say 6,500 dollar car.. Fair dinkum mate. lol Wish mine cost me that. Are you going to or thinking of modifications? Thanks for the prices and brands on alarms saves me dong some leg work now.

If you've currently got central locking, and you want to hook it up to an alarm, most likely you need a motor fitted to the drivers side door. Mate of mine with a magna exec had to get it done as well.

thanks guys. Im getting a Hornet one installed tommorrow. The car comes with a factory immobiliser.
Very happy with this car, has done a few more km's than I was after( 168k), but its in very good condition interior and exterior wise. The car yard also did the front and back brake pads, the CV joint and fixed a few leaks b4 they gave it to me.
Really just want a flashing red light to warn ppl of an alarm :)
Installed my car stereo I had in my old car yesterday, I got a plan of how to do it for a TJ Magna, the dash and everything were exactly the same. Too bad the back speakers didnt fit properly, they were 6x9's JVC, but the holes werent big enough. We made up some spacers out of pieces of plastic and fitted them on that. Put the old covers on top, the car looks standard everything :)
