View Full Version : TE or TF on LPG
Im looking for a new sets of wheels and have a tight budget, and magna happened to catch my attension, TE and TF are the only ones tht i can find between $5k-7K so im looking to get tht
But it seems most are on 3L and occasionally some on 2.4...still either way thats seems to cost me a fortune on petrol, so i'm just wandering if these cars are reliable to be converted into LPG and the cost, precautions or anything else related to the conversion that i need to know

i drive a TF V6 and the cost of petrol isn't killing me, i'm getting an average of low 9'sL/100km, in anycase, there are people in here that have LPG magnas, "choonga" is one of them. i got my TF solara for 8k drive way with all the taxes and 120000km on the clock in november last year (some say i could get it cheaper, but it didn't bother me), i had no major issues other than a rattle in my exhaust, fixed that about $500 all good now. with a budget as high as $7k, you would find a decent TF V6 with about 150000km onwards. i wouldn't recommend the 2.4L 4 cylinder, its a little underpowered for a largish car like the magna. but no doubt, take your time, there are many magnas around, bound to be a good deal, if i find one, i'll post it in this thread.

They don't cost that much to run on petrol. In fact the magna is pretty fuel efficient for a V6. Mine is only costing marginally more than my old 2.0L 4cyl Pintara.
As long as you service them regularly, it should stay pretty efficient and cheap.
As for LPG, there are a lot of places that will put systems in from about $1500 for something decentish.
So is it advisable to convert to LPG?9L/100kms seems alrite...
Btw 8k all in including registration? If so then its really a good price especially for 120ks only...
If u happen to come across any similar im quite interested
thx

You're gonna lose a bit of power on LPG, and sometimes LPG can cause engine problems (or more frequent servicing) although not sure if this is true with Magna engines.
I would personally stick to petrol and drive conservatively to keep costs down.

true, i still dun see that many around that price with 120k on the clock. 8k includes tansfer fee and stamp duty. car features the usual, air con, power steering, alloys and cruise. typical solara

get a v6 and just drive conservatively. you can get them down to 6.6-7 L/100km on the highway... and some people even claim to be getting aboud 10l/100k's with round town driving. thats around 600k's per tank round town.
dont get the 4, cause it will use more petrol as you have to work it harder, remember your trying to shift 1500kg's of family sedan, not 1000kg's of hyundai lol
get the v6 and run it on petrol, you wont be dissapointed :D
I've just went to see a few of them...i noticed its kinda large...is it because those ive seen are executives or are all the TE and TFs that huge?and whats the difference between advance, altera, and all those things?

Exec just means it's the base model ie: base features.
The others (advance, altera etc) just means it had different standards features off the factory line, such as power windows, climate control, cruise etc.
That's about it.

they are the all the same size, hehe, yeah if i dont drive my magna for a few weeks, i find it rather large, but you'll get use to it rather quickly

The V6 would definately be a better buy, with the weight of the car the V6 has to work a lot less. If you wanted to go gas it would depend on what state of tune you wanted. As I see it there are 3 states of tune. Duel fuel, tuned for petrol or gas, or dedicated gas.
Personally I would make it dedicated gas as that way you'll probably get better economy and you wouldn't lose the space when the tank is put in. Also nowadays there are very few petrol stations that don't sell LPG. So unless you regularly went out bush then dedicated gas is the best value for money.
If you were to choose the dual fuel option you have an added tank somewhere, either in the boot in in the spare wheel well, and you lose power for both fuels as it is a midway tune.

Ive got dual fuel on my TJ and unless you drive like Brock your not going to notice any difference. And its better to pay $30.00 to fill your tank than $75.00 petrol.
