ok for u suspension nuts out there opinions please

as of the last 2 days, my car has been swaying majorly at the back starts at 70km and more when u touch the wheel, even in the slightest..

the faster u go the worse it gets, it really dones not feel safe!

it started immediately after i put my 18's on the back again, thing was i found out there was a mix up with the tires i brought, turned out that i had 18 inch retreads on the back ( i was looking for tires that i could take to race on mallala for mgec track day) .....so i was pretty shocked that u could even buy 18 inch retreads and lucky i found out b4 i took it to malalla !!

anyways we figured it was the retreads doing it, specially as everything in the rear looked fine, but was tightend just to make sure.

today i put my 16's on the rear and drove itto get a feel for how it was...... EXACTLY THE SAME:(

so im booked in at a suspension specialist on money but thats gonna cost $$$

im thinknig maybe ive bounced a spring out i did hear a loud crack a few days earleir after going over a bump and when turned onto a t junction and heard the crack ... i was worried about the srping but it still handled fine and looking pretty good i figured it could have been my zorst knocking...

MAYBE i did bounce it out slightly but not enough to notice, and then when i jacked it up to put my 18's back on it came out more thus my problem ?

what u guys think? ... have to get tgis sorted asap as i need the car to drive to melbourne!

Didn't you mention something a while ago about your rear shocks being rooted?

Have you looked into them? Did you get them replaced?

Have you played with sway bars or anything recently, or just the springs?

read my post, we tighted everything in the rear end just to make sure it was fine ( this was all done by mechanics at a workshop)

What are the tyre pressures like?

Maybe it's just yesterday. I started oversteering heaps and ended up fishtailing after taking a corner a wee bit too fast.

well the tyre place did my 18's so i assume they r to the right amount of pressure

and the 16's well would be about 30 psi... im lost lol

OOooOoo im quite proud of myself ... ive never been a very DIY.. but i had a real close look and seems i was right about the spring,

its not sitting in the top rubber properly as in the the notch where the end of the spring is meant to sit

so the spring can be moved in circles ... where as the other cant .. woot:P

ok question,

the rubber bit up the top of the strut should they be loose? ...i can slide them and and down and spin them around to ...

is this a side effect of being really low with non lowered shocks ?

cos the car still feels bad

yup. you should always match your shocks to your springs.

um, if im thinking about the right part, then no, they shouldnt be doing that

it should be squashed up properly

get your strut checked, what you MAY have done is because your cars soooooo low, and the shocks are meant to sit about 30cm higher than they actually do (:P) you may have overcompressed the shock = pop or crack sound, and the oil may have gone out of it...

this happened with my front right coil when i first had them, was too low, and too hard, and popped the top

they still LOOKED fine, but once my (actually good) mechanic had a look, he noticed there was no oil in them... (pedders found nothing... )

so get the strut checked, that could be why its loose at the top

then, GET SOME PROPER SHOCKS to suit your ride height...

gl, remember suspension is as important as brakes. without them power is worthless ;)

this is clearly NOT my struts... just an example

I think u need some lowered struts jamie - cant beleive ur using those springs with stock shocks lol! those springs are so small they moved around in my lowered shocks so stock shocks i wouldnt be surprised if the spring popped out. Time for some new shocks buddy! :D

jamie i told u to do that last night u dip****.....the only reason why the rubber isnt tight up the top of the strut is cos the springs too short
