i know im talking to you on MSN and stuff....but a headunit only puts out MAXIMUM 15W.....there is no way its overpowering the speakers....maybe there just crap speakers? or bad connections?

Budget speakers are my Strong point

First Up.. Lets Avoid Cheap Brands like Boss and Avalanche, this will only end in Tears

Lets Look at Pioneer
http://www.strathfield.com/ViewProduct.asp?ProdID=1420
$88 is not a Bad Price but we can Do better

Lets Look at JBL
http://www.strathfield.com/ViewProduct.asp?ProdID=730#

At $169 they are the pick of the Bunch

Also Take a Look at what Clarion have to offer..

Take a CD,go in and Audition some 6x9's

Personally I wont touch Kenwood with a 10 foot Barge Poll so I wont recommend them but Blaupunkt, Fusion and Lightning Audio have 6x9's in your $200 Max Budget range...

I have some Eclipse 6x9's from my Ralliart lying around if you want your problem sorted cheaply.

For newies i still recommend OzAudio Vector Series and JBL GTO936's for that budget.

This may be off topic for you hardcore audiophiles, but, would the JBL's work well on the stock "Premium Sound" headunit from a TL VRX? By "work well", I mean that I don't need competition winning loudness, but I do want some dynamic range (not just bass). The stock speakers sound a bit "flat" when the bass is turned up.

dude, you gotta undo about 8 screws to install 6x9's its not hard at all
on another note, i keep seeing this "competition" word being thrown around the place, what are you saying exactly? ive looked on the pioneer site recently and ive seen no competition series section? i mean i could buy the crappiest boss audio 4 inch speakers and use them in a comp, does that make them competition speakers?

MaGnA_EvoX

mate pull your head in,
these are genuine competition series pioneer speakers, they had a range and im pretty sure they still do, also known as yellow cone range called the compeition range which were their top of the line gear unlike all the other rubish they produce the competition gear was pretty damn good gear. I would love to keep them but i have a small hatchback now and no need for rear speakers

JBL JBL JBL.. Im trying to sell some if you wanna make a reasonable offer..
They Are CS396e 3 way 6x9s From the cs series which preceded the Gran Touring series.. I had a complete jbl setup in my verada before i sold it and it was mint. my sub, amp, and fronts were the Gran touring series but i found that the CS 6x9s had fair bit more punch than the gtos (i purchased them both to make sure) the gtos went to my mate and i kept these. I found that the build quality is superior to the gtos and possible are the best looking speakers i have seen. Ill give ya pics. i was gonna chuck em on ebay.. I Also have the gto626e speakers that fit in the front these are 2 ways ill give you both sets for $200 if you want. i will send some pics if your interested
