Thank you so much for your meaningful, worthwhile input

What he wants to do to his car is his business, if you can't offer anything constructive then why post?

As far as what colour you should choose for your dash........ well, we might be able to give some better feedback if we knew exactly what you were planning to do....

Are you just planning to paint the 'console' and 'air vent' sections of the dash, or re-uphustering(sp?) your entire dash/console etc? Is it going to be the first stage of a full interior 'upgrade'? If so, the colour scheme is the first thing you need to decide on........ and personally I would choose 2 colours, because every car I've seen with a single colour interior colour scheme looks 'over the top' in my opinion.

Maybe a blue and gun metal gray (or similar) colour scheme?

Its all to difficult:P I would have a clue what would look good with a champagne colour exterior, maybe just go with something like white or silver.

I would vote against the white or any bold colours in a champagne car. It would look out of place IMO. I'd say try and find a spray can to match the champagne. Shouldn't be too hard, and if it's not overdone it could really compliment the car.
I think you need a metallic colour to match the champagne. Solid colours just wouldn't look right. If you put a black/champagne theme inside it would look the goods I think. I would say go black for most of the upholstery with champagne/goldish highlights and use the champagne colour on the console and dash highlights. Could look really good. Classy and different. Everyone does silver (even me, but my car's silver).

No probs there mate. Once you get the console parts out (there's a guide in here somewhere, just search) you need to clean it with wax and grease remover. Then prime it with plastic primer. Start with a couple of really light mist coats, then a couple of fuller coats. Next you repeat that with the top coat, fine mist for the first couple then slightly heavier coats. Do a few coats till you get the finish you want. You can give a really light sand in between the heavier coats with some very fine wet and dry sand paper if you like to get it really smooth.

Don't be too scared. Those dash and console parts shouldn't be too hard to come by at a wrecker or Mitsubishi if you screw it up. I was nervous too so I just did the console first (around the gear stick) to see how it went. I figured if I wrecked it I could get one new bit of plastic. Anyway it turned out really nice. Now I just need to get off my arse and finish the rest.

BTW, all the stuff you need, that I mentioned above, I got from autopro, so you should be able to get it all from any auto shop.

Good Luck mate :D

Not a bad idea, but you can probably practice on any bit of similar plastic. I used an old dustpan to see how it looked. Have fun with it.
Now go to bed. It's late. :bowrofl:

yeah, when i was babbling on about the colours, i forgot it was going into a champagne car. i think the above is a good idea, black with ash/creamy coloured highlights would look pimp as.
my center console is white and i have all the highlights round the car aswell, airvents etc
needless to say i only did white coz my car is white and it looks oh so fine!
i was going to do the same thing and get a console from the wreckers and do that so if i did stuff it up or want to sell the car i could just swap em over. but then i realised, why not do it to the one i got, then if i need to buy a new one do that later, seemed stupid to buy a new console set for $120 when it was only going to sit around anyway.

heres guide to preparing and painting interior plastics.

when you sand the centre console and surrounds use something like 800/1000 wet'n'dry. co**** enough to scratch it up without shredding it. its also a good idea to get some automotive scotchbrite to get into all the nooks and crannies where sandpaper wont go.
use plenty of water when doing this as thats how the paper is designed to work. once done give it all a good wash with soap to get any sludge and contaminants off. wash the whole thing, underside as well. when its dry it will need to be cleaned with prepsol(wax and grease remover). wipe the prepsol on and then with a clean rag wipe the excess off. it is important to get all the prepsol off as otherwise it will leave a film on the part. I wipe my parts again with another clean rag to be sure. if you have rubbed through to to plastic(likely) put down some plastic primer first as this allows the paint to stick to it. follow the manufacturers instruction with that. when you lay down your colour remember that it probably wont cover straight away, be patient and do it in a few coats. if you are using a colour with poor coverage(green, yellow, red) put a white base down first to avoid a transparent finish. its probably a good idea to put some clear on to protect the surface as it is a high wear area. phew!
just remember that a good paint job can be ruined by poor preparation. have patience my young padawan learner, the force is with you.:D

a slightly better guide to the above lol

i got my sprayed in 2k black the whole radio surround vents and altera wide ashtray for $20

can even buy decent paint for that...

get hold of the verada console with the ashtray covers etc... (($20 from the wreckers) and it will look much much nicer when all done

sounds like an excellent idea. best to practice on something that doesn't matter. practice makes perfect.
