View Full Version : Cabin-to-enginebay wiring; where to go?

Going to install some driving lights (for use when needed, NOT as a fashion accessory!), but need to find somewhere to run one or possibly two wires from the dash through to the engine bay.
I've figured out where to tap a switching current from, how the electrics are going, etc., just need a convenient place to run the switching wire from the "on" switch to the relay - anyone know where existing wires run through, if there's space for others, or if there's any unused wires running through in an Executive? (ie. unused portions of the loom?)

There is a grommet on the passenger side of th engine bay which leads directly behind the glove box. This is fairly easy to access from outside, but isn't too difficult from the inside either once you get your head under and behind that glove box.

I've actually been looking for another access in, somewhere towards the drivers side, but I think I'll forget it since it's quite full on there. If anyone's done it via another pathway, let us know :)

By the way about the unused wiring loom, well on our Executive, it seems the power gear is all ready to rock on roll for Power Windows. Although considering there are no switches for power windows, its not going to do you any good, you'll still need to run cabling inside.

However if you really want to do it the OEM style, the power window does have the "power output" wire coming into the interior from the fusebox. Problem is I have no idea where the end is, i'm hoping to drop by a DIY wrecker and just trace the wire on a donor (Cause I'm not butchering my own car). Then all you need to do is effectively re-wire that output wire on the relay pins to become your switch wire.

on the RHS of a 2nd gen there is a loom that runs from under the dash through the pillar/firewall (above the fuse box)
it then runs up behind the RH guard and comes out into the engine bay near the battery.

I would guess that the main power wire for the power windows, when unused would end at the interior plug for the loom mentioned above or it would end at the interior fuse box and plug panel.

yeah, gromet, quite easily reached, i ran my amp power wire through there. undo a few screws in the right wheel arch and you should be able to pull it off partially.. i think theres another gromet that goes from there (i may be mistaken) but it comes out behind the air filter on the side, so its a bit of a pain to reach

hey guys do you have any pictures of this and when i do pass through a cable such as an Amp power cable where does it end up? Do i need to pull out the glovebox to access the cable?
Please let me know

I used this one for my amp power. Its coverd by a little bit of rubber/foam with a hole through it.

Yes and because of that it doesn't have a clutch so there is a grommet in the firewall where the clutch master cylinder linkage would go through.
