My KJ2 has developed an interesting little quirk. I loose all but one of the 3rd brake light globes every so often. The really strange thing is the one that remains has changed, usually it's the 2nd from the left but my wife noticed the far right one worked one day with the rest out. I followed the car the other day and for no reason they stopped working for a little while then started working. I pulled the light out and checked every thing was Ok, nothing visibly wrong. I don't think the globes are faulty, although I probably will replace them soon anyway. Might have to look at making an LED replacement.

When you replace them make sure you use a good brand of globe. I find that phillips have been good for me. Because there is heaps of vibration from when you close the wagon it kills cheap globes. I have tried nearly every brand on the market. Most blew within months of replacing but the Phillips are still in there from over 18 months ago. I also recomend this to everyone replacing number plate globes.

The globes in the top light in the wagon will come on and go away because they dont have the best of connections but if you use a good quality globe you should be fine.

Yeah I thought that might be the issue since the car is a couple of years old and the tailgate gets opened as often as the rest of the doors. Now to learn how to make my own LED high level brake light.

another thing to watch out for on the 3rd gen wagons is the PCB where the globes go into... if the globes are always failing, or not working.. check to see if the board is split.. have seen it before! if thats the case.. might be wise to read up on sites on how to hook up an LED system.. parts shouldnt cost more than 15 bucks , including a blank pcb, resistors, and leds!
