Hi all, I know limp mode has been touched on a few times here ( I have done a search) but I thought I would post this incase anyone had some suggestions
I have a 99 TH sports, 4spd tiptronic auto.
I have recently installed a K&N Pod box with 100mm CAI (from EZboy - went great!)
We installed the POD box etc after having to squeeze the 100mm piping in.
we also had to relocate some kind of canister (could this be the TCL part other people have spoken of having to relocate - the POD box would not fit with the canister in its orginal place?, - it kinda looked like a brake fluid resevior from a motorbike, had a couple of cables coming from the bottom of it) We cable tied the little canister upright as it was just slighly out of the way of the POD box.
we reset the ECU and the car went great for about 45 minutes, then I stopped and restarted the car after about 10 minutes, it would not select a gear, just free rev, after going between D &P a couple of times at idle the auto then seemed to go into limp mode, I have since reset the ECU again but the trans is still in limp mode, there is no gear selector light on the dash anymore and the car seems to lock in third if in D, and it seems as if it might be in 2nd if I leave it in tiptronic mode.
I have checked the fuse box, everything seems ok although i am no expert, the 20a fuse 2nd or third up from the bottom left -fuse 14 or 15 from memory the yellow 20a one seemed to have white marks on it and the fuse housing as if it had white out correction fluid swiped across it lightly and the fuse above that the 15a blue fuse - I think its for the wipers is not even there! But I could see no breakage in the yellow fuse, so I assume the white marks must have been from something else?
I swapped the 20a yellow fuse with another one I think from the air con, but no go still in limp mode
I have checked for obvious loose connectors etc, do you think there is more of chance it is just a connector or sensor issue - or do you think my trans has just been ready to blow and the little bit extra oomph with the POD box - Made a big difference! was enough for trans to go bye bye..?
I do hope to take it to a Sydney mistis dealer tomorrow, or is this something most specialist transmission places should be able to check out - I mean read diagnostic codes from ECU / TCU etc?
Cheers
