View Full Version : KR Verada ECU?
Hi all,
My KR Verada has decided that it doesn't want to play the game.
First off, it would not idle....great at 2000+ rpm but cut out at less revs than that.
I replaced the idle control motor and it went like a dream.... for two days, then would not start at all.
A little troubleshooting revealed no spark at plugs. There IS spark from coil.
Too easy, replace ignition module....nope, still no go.
Is the ECU next on the list?
I've recently committed to a new (s/h) car so really do not want to spend any more than I have to on the Verada.
Any help appreciated.

Is it getting fuel?
If not then it is probably either the ECU fuse, ECU control relay or ECU :)

Checked fuel first...that's ok.
The ECU fuse is ok; I'll check the relay...thanks (fingers crossed)

Relay seems to be ok.
All I can do here is to check with an ohm meter that the contacts are ok.
Pulled out ECU while I was at it. Also seems ok visually. No bulging/leaking capacitors or burn marks on the board.
I guess all I can do from here is take the relay and ECU down to the auto electrician and see if they can test them.
Keep your eye on the "for sale" forum. If it is the ECU that's cactus there will be a very cheap Verada in there soon :(

The ecu's aren't that expensive. I got one for my KR from Imlachs for $275, and $100 deposit on your old unit, so take the old one in and all you need to pay is $275.
oh, thats not so bad....
I guess I'll weigh it up against the sale value. I've spent $290 so far (battery, idle motor, ign module). Another $275 makes $565 on a car I've already replaced and is worth somewhere around $2000?
Maybe I'm better just selling it for $1500 or thereabouts and doing without the aggravation.
Sometimes ya get caught between a rock and a hard place...
Thanks for the info, tho. Maybe I'll be more motivated tomorrow :)
for anyone who had been watching/helping with info on this post.
the car is now running again,
the problem appears to have been in the ECU which has now been replaced with one out of a KS V6, which is the newer computer and the recommend replacement unit (by mitsa).
many things have been replaced along the way but today (after installing the new ECU ($118 exp posted from VIC to QLD)) the car came alive again.
got a few things we need to do to get her road worthy but if all goes well she should be on the road within a week.

pleased to hear it, snu2.
Have fun :)
Oh, what was needed for the roadworthy? Not much, I hope?

appart from a few minor things we did (the washers, HT leads, batt clamp, horn, etc) just a couple of boots, (Cv (as you had said) and a drive shaft boot) all should be sortted fri.
we managed to trip the alarm the other day and had trouble shutting it up, lol was goin for 20 mins or so, but alls good now ;)
that's good... hope you get as many good years out of it as I did :)
With the alarm, before I started working from home, every so often (maybe 1 x 6 months) it would go off for no particular reason at my car space (where I used to work). Never happened anywhere else...just there...go figure.
If you accidently set it off, usually just using the key to lock/unlock the door will disarm it.
PS I found the battery clamp the other day...I'll put it aside with anything else I come across.

i suggest fuel filter, checking PCV lines and the valve itself, give the throtle body a good clean, and try a different throtle body with isc on it, also worth a check is if the airflow meter is working properly.
