Just wondering if its normal for the swaybar to move slightly either way of centre.

I installed a new whiteline in my KJ AWD and i have noticed by the grease marks that it has moved sideways either way of centre by up to an inch. When i installed it, i made sure the two pins(links?) that attach to either side of the swaybar holes were vertical. The sway bar is all in fine and all done up tight but every now and then, i look under the back and the pins are way off vertical and the thing has moved say an inch to the left. Is this normal? I didnt take note how the old one was when i took it out. The sway bar's are exactly the same size and shape but the new one is thicker.

Thanks guys.

Hey !
I have just fitted front and rear bars to my 1998 and they are rigid !
You may need to replace the rubber/plastic/neaprine bushes where it fixes to the cross member but no it should not move like that !

The official response from Whiteline:

Thank you for purchasing a Whiteline sway bar.

It is normal for this to occur as the ball joint type end links do not provide resistance to the sway bar moving laterally. As the OEM bushes are made of rubber, resistance is provided by the clamping of the bush on the sway bar, where as on the Whiteline sway bars the polyurethane bushes are lubricated and this provides no clamping or resistance force to lateral sway bar movement.

on either side of the yellow rubber bushes there should be 2 clamps to stop it moving shouldnt there? my friend and i installed one on his mazda 3 a couple of weeks ago. the actual sway bar isnt really meant to sway. funny that. ill try and photoshop some clamps on so its easier for me to explain

it came with 2 smaller yellow bushes for each side with hose clamps. they sit tight against the large yellow bushes and this is what stops the bar actually sliding.

when replying scroll down and there should be a button that says "manage attatchments"
click on that and then click on browse and you can add a pic, document etc from your computer :)
