Hi All,
Have had a problem with my old head unit, so back to the supplier it goes, and in the meantime am trying my darndest to install a clarion dxz525 as a temporary measure... as it stands the clarion wiring harnesses are different on the 2 models, and I'm having wiring issues with the new one. At the moment, I have no dash lights, and i gather it may have something to do with the illumination wire in the wrong place, and every time i turn the car off, i have to go through the whole "system check" phase and reset my presets when I turn it back on again!!

So... what I have from the back of the head unit is:

yellow (backup or battery)
org/wht (illumination)
blu/wht (remote)
red (accessory)
black (ground)- DUH!
blu/wht (remote)
... and I think I've got the speaker wires sorted

And from under dash in my TF is:

Ggrn/wht (thin wire)
yellow/blk (thin wire)
red/blk (thick wire)- perhaps constant power??
blu (thick wire)- perhaps acc power???
ground- DUH!!!
and again i think i have the speaker wires sorted

I guess all i need to know is what to plug into what???? I have all the wires set up with plugs etc, just don't know what goes where. Can anyone help me please?? Sub, speakers and amp working fine...

Thanks
Bonnie

One more question- there is no illumination wire in the 98-99 diagram, do I need to do anything with the illumination wire that comes out of the back of the headunit??

i take it u have already installed the head unit but just incase!
the illumination wire is used for lowering the illumination on the head unit so it isnt as bright of a night time....(not distracting to your driving)
this comes on when your head lights come on so the illumination wire connects to the +cable from your head lights. so wen your head lights come on it switches your head unit into de-illumination mode!:D hope this helps

yes i do know how to locate it.... im not sure if your standard head unit has this cable? but the cable that illuminates the dash when the lights come on, can b used also,,,,, u will just have to find a light in the dash and take the +wire from a dash light to the sterio illumination.

Okay.. Illumination and everything is sorted..

THe problem that she's having is with memory now..

Memory is connected to constant.. all is sweet as.. but she says that after 10/15mins of being out of the car.. memory disappears!

I'm thinkin that she's got a problem with something on that line.. But I aint all that clued up..

I took it straight out of another car where it was working fine. Go figure...

If that memory wire (yellow one) is really giving you trouble, just run a fresh cable from the battery to the headunit like you would an amp. Be sure to use at least 12gauge cable, and remember to fuse it. ;)
