Have just removed tacky discoloured plastic checkerplate surround from behind my number plate and have loads of silicone left on the paint work. Waht is the best way to remove it without damaging my paintjob?

Try rolling it off...
Just use your thumb or a finger, and roll it along the paint work.
Should be ok :D

From some science website: "chloroform, toluene and
dichloromethane are good methods for removing silicone"
I have no idea what they'd do to your paint tho. I'd try rolling it off first for sure.

What have you tried?
I debadged last week and to get that flipping glue off I ended up trying goo remover, tea tree oil AND tar remover. Ended up using my fingers!

So far have tried Metho and a plastic spatula, but is stuck a little bit too much. And paint is starting to chip too :(

silicon is a ***** to remove! you will find most solvents don't work as it is essentially rubber. the best way is by rolling it off or using you fingernail as anything sharper is likely to scratch the paint. If you do mark the paint with your fingernail just use some cutting compound or polish to remove them. This is really time consuming and boring but it is the safest way. Lucky for me I have an apprentice to do fun stuff like this.
