Hi

I've been looking at a 2004 LS on petrol, however on one of the engine mountings, it is stamped with LPG, hope you don't think this is a stupid question, but does this mean that it has the hardended valves etc the same as the dedicated gas cars?

Just a bit confused - I've been told elsewhere that engine option N01 (on the compliance plate) signifies gas, & when you look throught the TL specs, the petrol car has a engine type of E35, and the gas car E40.

Can anyone shed any light.

Cheers

it should have lpg stamped on the head as well if it was set up for lpg.should be near the engine lift bracket.

Hi

The stamp was on a metal bracket more or less at the front of the engine compartment in the centre of the car. Is that what you mean?

If it helps ... I have a TJ Solara. It has N01 listed as an option on the metal compliance plate (riveted to centre of engine firewall), and LPG etched in the lower engine block. It's my understanding you need both to ensure it's fully factory LPG compatible, with the compliance plate being the overriding 'authority' (as long as it's the factory engine).

Not all gas compatible cars have N01 on the complience plate, and apparently not all gas engines have LPG stamped on them. Apparently certain digits on the engine number will tell you whether the engine is gas compatible, don't ask me what digits mean what. This information came from a guy from MMAL who is the technical guru for Vic, was speaking to him at the motor show and asked him these questions.
I think the only way to know for sure is take the care to a Mitsu service centre and get them to check, mind you some of them don't seem to know either!

Your local dealer should be able to look it up on their computer using the VIN no. A little off topic but they can also find out your master key code so that if your old one is hard to turn you can get a new one cut to the same specs as the original. :D

i'd be off to a mitsu dealer with the vin number and they will let you know all there is to be known about that car :D

Thats not a bad idea - went into a mitsu service centre today, & talked to the service manager who said the LPG / N01 stamps were a legacy of earlier engines. All the TL / TW models according to him are lpg compatible!!

Seems a bit of a black art to me!

I woulda thought that all engines were LPG compatable :doubt: . Guess it just depends on if you wanna change the valve seats. From what I can gather this is the only difference, am I right or are the valve springs/valves tougher as well?

unless it has LPG writen here (picture) then it is NOT lpg compatible. All lpg compatible engines where stamped on the head in this spot.
