Ok i got a prob! I wanna put a system on the Magna. Its a 1990 TP, 4cyl, EFI, Excutive. Im not sure wat i should get tho. Ive been told go 'cat-back' cause it increases preformance, but i dont wanna spend heaps either. Bout $300 max. I'd love to hear some ideas and examples. Thanx

not really, it just increases noise.

Sorry i dont know much about buying exhaust systems, all i can say is go to your local exhaust shop and have a word.

I replaced the whole stock exhaust in my Carby TP with a stock EFI Manifold -to- stock EFI cat -to- 2.25" press bent pipe -to- hotdog resonator -to- Lukey Straight through performance exhaust.

All up for parts and installation I ended up spending something close to your $300 max budget.

Performance wise, there is a noticeable mid and top end power boost. But best of all was how much smoother my magna TP feels when idling, and cruising; it alone was worth the exhaust upgrade. :)

If your TP exhaust is the same as mine then your muffler will be a 1/4 inch smaller than the rest of your exhaust. putting a 2" strait thru should be better than a 1.75" s bend muffler.

of course it increases performance, why else would people do it?

Cat-back includes mufflers so there is where you pick up some hp

For a better sound.

Obviously the different gens will vary greatly but I know on alot of the TF's, you put in a new cat back 'sports' exhaust, and most agree it sounds better, alot will agree that the so called performance gain is minimal at best. I know when I did mine I experienced absolutely no noticeable gains in power. Maybe I gained 1-3 Kw's?
Its not really a mod one does for raw 'power'

I think the point of it is to
A: Sound better
B: Allow other mods to give the best gain.

For example if your getting extractors, you would get the best out of them with a higher flowing exhaust.

This is true. on my TP my catback gave the car more stick and let it rev better. it depends on a lot of things but for $300 you'd be lucky to get a cheap brand of extractors installed and without a decent cat, pipe size and sports muffler there isn't really any point to that..
