I have the same problem....i don't put my music up loud cuz the mirror rattles and is very anoying. I have not tried to take it off as i don't want to accidently rip it off the window.

Ive had a bit of paper shoved under it to stop the rattle a little.. although its still there.. just a little less of it. would love to kill it forever but i could never get the mirror out either.. i just drive with one hand holding it when it gets too much heheh

the TH onwards mirror is one of the hardest to get off i've ever seen!! (i bought a replacement one over a year ago, still havent been able to fit it!)

apparently it is very easy to crack the windscreen while doing it, hmmm... $200 for a new windscreen so i can enjoy my $6000 stereo? seems almost worth it

my mate hung a newborns size shoe on his rearview that was filled with something fairly heavy.. stopped it from rattling and such..

hehe not a bad idea... :P

I must say my tf was very easy to take off... have you tried tapping it lightly, instead of just pushing? Kinda freaky now that i know you could smash the windscreen so easily...:doubt: Or it might be worth while paying a panel beater 20 bucks to break things for ya?/!lol

I know it's dredging up an old issue but I havent seen it answered yet.

From the Workshop Manual for TH/KH, TJ/KJ, TL/KL

INSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR REMOVAL
Insert a narrow flat-tip screwdriver between the retaining spring
and the button at the bottom section of the rear view mirror
bracket, keep the spring pushed in and remove the rear view
mirror in the direction of the arrow in the illustration.
NOTE
1. While the spring is pushed in, connection between the
spring and the pawl of the button is released.

Procure yourself a set of chromed metal dice, stop that rattle with style!

agreeed.. although i didnt crack the windscreen.. i ah, well, left a little hole of where some glass was.. its prolly weak there now, so if a stone his there it will prolly crack a bit...

i tried takin mine off in my TH and thats what happened... its like there is a lug underneath it that u have to push down (not easy) and then push the mirror up (which is when it broke for me)... so i wouldnt advise it...

take it to misti.. and if they break ure windscreen.. then its their fault:badgrin:

random funny moment that i feel like contributing..

someone one time took my rear view mirror off and never quite put it on back properly. Anyway, a few months later, i quickly floor it to get out of a sticky situation, the mirror falls off, hits my auto shifter and pushes it into neutral, my foot was still going down... my god.. biggest WTF moment as the car starts screeching and im not going anywhere. I realise that ive proberly just mucked up traffic so go to check my rear view mirror (i didnt know what had fallen down at this moment) only to realise ****, i cant see behind me.. then took me a moment to realise why i wasnt moving.

i swear.. was oh so confusing..
moral of the story.. ummm... make sure it put it on right? :D

three weeks ago i tried taking my mirror off the windscreen and to my surprise i broke it off haha, not only did i break the mirror off i cracked my windscreeen, it was funny untill i realised i had to get a new windscreen, anyway 200 buck later and i can see behind me again. Bit of a pointless story there for yas.
