got a aftermartket one on there atm, need to change muffler to a shiny one. I just curious with earlier 3rd gens etc theres no gap for an exhaust cos the stock one was behind exhaust.
Im curious what you's did, just cut it out or what?!
Cheers

I have 2 stainless steel mufflers, one on each side and i have 3" pipes on about a 45 degree angle so the tips point out from the bumper...

Like myself, most other members who have fitted Redback mufflers to their 3rd gens would have noticed that there isn't enough clearence between the droop tip and the lowest point of the rear bar - and so the bar gets abit melted (only a small section which is rarely seen). With both my TJs (same exhaust setup), I fitted the exhaust - drove around with it until the next weekend, then took the muffler off - and tidied up the melted bit with a dremel tool.
Basically your options are:
Have the bar cut to accomodate the muffler/tip combination you intend to use or
have the muffler/tip angled at such a way that it points out below the bumper with enough clearence so that the bar isn't melted (in my experience, you want at least 10mm of air between the muffler tip and any plastic you dont want melted).
Most people don't like the idea of cutting their rear bar just for a muffler, but in my opinion, the second option will make your exhaust tips very prone to scraping on steep driveways because they are that much closer to the ground.

crank out the airsaw... thats what we did, take your time to do it right and it'll look good.
make sure the hole is just an enlargement of the tip though.
eg. not a round top in an oval cut out or an oval tip in aBIG circlular cut out ,lol.

Fitted by an exhaust shop??? if so they probably modifed the hangers so there was enough clearence. If not, well, I know mine was too close and melted, and I'm pretty sure HyperTF had the same problem with his.
