and what exactly is an annoying FWD??

*ahem* Maybe there is some slack in your throttle cable.

erm Auto or Manual?

Often with autos if you plant it flat down it will kick down a gear.

If manual...you werent trying to accelerate in 5th gear were you? :P 40km/h, if you want FAST acceleration 2nd gear is your friend. 2nd can take you all the way upto 90 if your so inclined :P

Correction....... a four cylinder auto.

I still maintain that the symptoms he's describing could be a result of a loose or broken (frayed) throttle cable. As far as the transmission kicking down......... from my experiece with the TJ 4spd auto - it didn't like to kick down to 1st at much higher than 40km/h (infact I think 40 was the limit), and 2nd......... well you can take 2nd to about 130km/h in the 4speeds - it's a veeeeeeerrrrrrrryyyyy long gear.

Yeah my auto says :gtfo: if I need it to kick down after reaching a certain speed... just a safety feature for the gearbox I'd say... either that or your service is very due... if you want to work it out now, go back to basics (air intake, fuel intake, filters, spark plugs etc) and make sure all is functional.

Few cars like to be kicked in the guts when they are cold.

My car is auto, look at my profile, as far as my car performance is concerned, since my car hasn't been serviced for a year I’m so due for one and if I didn't get one done soon, something bad will happen to my car, HOPEFULLY WHEN I GET MY CAR SERVICED DONE NEXT IT WILL BE PERFECT AGAIN FOR MY CAR, LETS HOPE SO

Whack a turbo on there, that'll fasten it up. Make sure you get a full front mount intercooler and 5" exhuast. Run 30 PSi, dont worry the engine can handle it, it's a magna :D.
Then run 100 shot of NOS and use that at 5000rpm just before the car changes gears.

That should get the old girl moving faster.

or take the exhaust off completly, easy, cheap, proven power:D

or add an EVo 6 wing, adds an extra 10Kw so i've heard:P

OMG i totally forgot....STICKERS!!!
How many do you have? if you dont have at least 8 than you defineatly need more. I'd go with a shopping list and some stereo advertisments on the windscreen and side windows. It's dyno proven results!

Hmmm 8 stickers already huh?
Well i guess that only leaves a massive GT wing to put on the back, that should at 20-30kw.

If you cant afford the turbo just buy that thing that plays a blow off valve noise through your speakers at the press of a button.

Wire that up to play every time you back off on the throttle, see what it actually does it sends a surge of power through your battery which is obviously wired directly to the engine to convert the power surge into raw KW's. IE the higher your speakers are turned up, the more power going through them and the more KW's you get. I think it works out at roughly 1kw per DB of volume.

And yeah, more stickers are needed. Also if you want to go REALLY fast remove all but the drivers seat, take out all but 1 bolt in each wheel (the others just add weight)

Oh and remove your air filter compeltely.

I think thats about all the mods Booya did to get his 300kw's right?
Booya had a v6, you only have a 4 but see buy an electrical alternator and clip it on anywhere to your battery and it will reverse the polarity, in effect giving you V8 power.

....

Im silly some times.

Yeah my auto says :gtfo: if I need it to kick down after reaching a certain speed... just a safety feature for the gearbox I'd say...

Most of the time this is the case with my car, but every now and then it likes to scare the absolute shi-nizzle out of me by dropping down an extra cog, and the thing just about jumps out from under me.

I find it happens if I plant it at reallllly low RPMs, like 2000rpm, where my car has almost no usable power. Plant it at anything over 2500rpm however and it'll tend to hold onto that gear, rather than drop back a cog or two.

Suppose if I really want it to kick back I could use the handy dandy selector, but depending on how nice I'm feeling that may not be too healthy for my poor little gearbox.

I think you'll find the gearbox (or probably more accurately the TCU) has a safety mechanism which will stop it from kicking down past a gear past a certain RPM - wether automatically or when manually selected using the tippy or the standard selector. I know my tippy wouldn't go down to 1st above about 40km/h, either by itself or when I tried to make it. As far as I've been lead to believe - the 4spd tippy's are identical to the 4spd autos just with a more fancy method of manually selecting gears.

I drive a auto aswell - mines a V6 though.

Usually one thing you can do do get yourself moving faster is to gear down to 3rd and give it a poke - usually works a treat, given a 1 -1.5 second delay.

Used to do that all the time in my old car - 2003 Mazda 323 Protege 1.8 - only 92kw but it went well if you gave it a kick in the right gear.

wow alot of useless crap in this thread :doubt:

so..

its an astron problem, everyone i know with one says the same thing, theres alot more low down torque when cold but just let it idle for a few mins and drive it nicely for 5odd km and should be fine
