i got a flat battery on sunday and it was old so i went and bought a new one
chucked it in started up faster than ever BUT sonthing is going on with the auto.
1; it changes down by itself when slowing down
2; it will only change up gears when i floor it and then as soon as i back off it changes back down a gear
3;when cruising at any speed it wont stay in top gear it keep changing between 2nd and 3rd

it only started doing this when i put the new battery in could it be the computer??
i took it to a few auto shops and they all said "we wont know untill we pull it apart" with out even having a look at the car

what do you guys think??

first thing is check the tps plug make sure its not green on the terminals

where is it??

on the throttle body ....throttle position switch= tps

thats what it is because when i changed the battery i also put a tiny welsh plug ito a hole on the top of the throttle body and i hit the plug on the TB and it broke the rubber boot thats on it
so thats probly it hey lol

give it a wriggle while motor running if it changes note or revs thats a good chance its dammaged

best to replace the plug with a new one and clean the tps with CO cleaner

does the wiring un plug from the main harness or am
i gunna have to get the soldering iron out

nop write down the colors of wires from top to bottom

new plug comes with new terminals, cut old plug off put the new rubber boot over the 4 wires crimp the new terminals on and push them inside the new plug make sure wires are in the same place as before

The problem is most likely:
Basically by replacing the battery, the auto transmission has forgotten your driving style. All you need to do is drive it like you normally would for a few days and it will re-learn and change back to normal.

its not the auto its the wires that go into the TPS that is causing the problem.
if i had of done a search i doubt i would have come acros a post where someone had smacked the TPS wires with a hammer wile putting a welch plug in the same day that they changed the battery

yeah i just thought i busted the rubber boot on it and i didnt know it had anything to do with the auto

TR-Envy's original post is the typical reason why people experience strange happenings after changing the battery as the computer has to re-learn again.

But it sounds in this case like you are as clumsy as me lol

When you crimp the terminals also drip a touch of solder there as well, always good practice.

Seems a few people in this forum like bashing their magnas, one hint, never hit a battery terminal, this will screw your battery
