well i just bought a sigma off ebay thats still running and licensed for $235! its got a yellow sticker and needs a few things done to get it back on the road but not that much from the sounds of it.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4613070988&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
i intend to get it licensed and use it as a spare car so i can take "evie" of the road somtimes to work on her.
i plan to build this as a bit of a sleeper, so in the works is a toyota supercharger providing 3-5psi of boost to bump up the power from around 70kw to 90-100kw at the flywheel. this should make for a bit of rear wheel fun

Why dont you just buy a sigma GSR turbo kit? im sure there are a few hanging about the place. Hell i even know where i can buy a whole sigma GSR (minus the turbo  ) for $300

no such thing as a gsr turbo.. theres just a gsr and a sigma turbo :P
the turbo was only released in the GH
where as the gsr was released in the GJ and GK only
also the turbo manifolds are very hard to come by these days.. remember there was only 500 sigma turbos ever built :(

Well i know where there is a sigma turbo hanging about in victoria. Not running and someone has nicked the turbo but the rest of the car is there.

yeah i have thought of that, but as has been said there are a few bits and peices floating around, but people generally want a reasonable amount of money 4 them.
im thinking twin webers with blow through supercharger :D

ok heres a few pics of the siggy im thinking about calling her "the lawnmower" what do yas think? shes 26 in october. The paints a bit faded, the interior is dirty, there are small rusts spots in the usual places nothing major and the rear bumper has been pushed in. but she only cost 250 bucks and she runs really well. the tranny was replaced 20000km ago and a reconditioned head was put in a year ago.
notice the yellow sticker on the windscreen, that adds 10rwkw for sure!

well i thought id do an update so heres what ive done so far:
fixed the oil leak(half round seal had no gasket sealant !) and degreased the engine. put in a new air filter and topped up the coolant.
swaped the spares from the magna and sigma onto the back
blasted out all the rusted spots with a blunt screwdriver and air compressor  made some massive holes !
put in some rust converter, and rust proof bogged up the holes and sanded them back to get the right shape(took a long time its harder than it looks)
sprayed the rust holes in primer ready to have some touch up paint.
ripped off the bumper, boot seal, broken door handle and rusty headlight and replaced them with parts from the wreckers.
fixed the interior lights, all working now :D
gave the interior a massive clean, it was a pigsty ! carpet, sound deadener and insulation in peices in the footwell. put in floor mats to hide the holes in the carpet:doubt:
bought monroe GT shocks for the front as the old ones were knackered and new inner and outer tie rod ends.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
still have to;
cut and polish paint
spray touch up paint on the dodgy bits
finish installing the shocks and tie rod ends
put underbody rust proofer on the weak spots
do a final degrease and take the car to get the wheel alignment done
final interior clean
put on the front hub caps
take the car over the pits

your so wasting ur time and money lol get a sprinter . by the time u have ur crappy sigma running u could have had a nice sprinter already with lsd and would prob still beet the sigma even without a turbo. my mate had a sigma turbo'd and they suck he was running 10psi boost and my skyline wagon still blew it off no effort hahahaah lol

i find that hard to believe, if it was a real sigma turbo it would have wasted your skyline (unless that was turbo aswell) ive been told by many people that these did a 14 down the 1/4 stock, not bad for a late 70's family car
any way sigmas ROCK keep up the work TM-Terror :)

good luck finding a sprinter that is drivable for less than 3 grand! not to mention a standard australian sprinter levin only has about 30-40 kws at the rear wheels , im putting a 4age in one with cam, inlet, tb upgrades with a port and polish and that will only do i low 15 to high 14 with 100 kw's atws ... but thats $$$$.... oh and a sprinter with an LSD? .... point me in the way of a sprinter in australia that came with a factory LSD? .. u be looking at a grand to buy one for a sprinter ..
all of a sudden the sigma looks like a great idea huh?!
ive been told u can use the sigma 2L top end with the 2.6 bottom end works quite well but needs a bit of playing around ?... good luck with the car, project cars are great fun! but are also a money pit lol

thanks for the positive feedback guys
heres the latest pics, with the rust repaired and paint cut back and touched up. just needs a final cut and polish to blend the new paint in with the old and it will be pretty sweet, it looks a million times better than when i first got it. the front hub caps will go on after i get the wheel alignment done.
check out the difference between the first pics i posted and these latest ones :D

well the sigma has been going really well, even managed to do a few doughies on dry tarmac the other day on private property of course :D
anyway the choke on the carby doesnt work and overall the carby just looks buggered, so ive decided clean out and chuck this XE falcon weber i had in my spare parts. ive rejetted it to 127 main fuel jet and 140 secondary fuel jet. i think that would be about right for a stock 2 Litre astron? anyone got some advice ?
its still a bit grubby, but i dont have any carby cleaner, ill have to wait untill the shops are open again. but everything is free and looks ok and ive blown all the jets out with compressed air. im going to use my spare ramflo air cleaner which i once had on the magna on it which will look pretty good too.

I have a magazine that has a Sigma with the 2L head on the 2.6L bottom + turbo and some work. Its got 161Kw at the wheels. If my scanner is working, ill scan it up and post it
Might give you some good idea's :)

cool, although i dont really wanna spend that kinda money on this car !
prob the most id do would be a cam regrind with heavyduty valve springs and the weber rejetted and dyno tuned to suit. btw the stock the compression is 9.5:1 on the 2 litre :D
id like to keep this sigma as a total sleeper

hey everyone
i was thinking about putting a mild cam in the sigma
part no 107704
http://www.crowcams.com.au/templates/Catalogue-Sigma-OHC.shtml
i was wondering what gains i can expect from that, with the weber 32/36 fitted i bought off ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4633237217
anyone put a mild cam on thier first gen ? what sort of effect did it have and what power gains ? how much did it cost for supply and fittment of the new cam ?
on a side note, i love working on the sigma maybe even more so than the magna. its so simple to take apart and do things to it :D and i dont care if i stuff somthing up whereas the magna i worry because its in such good condition.
oh i got the fuel guage and speedo light working today, all im did was take the instrument cluster out and cleaned the electrical spade connectiors and swapped bulbs around and played with the electrical pins on the bulbs. and when i put it back together its working perfectly.
also i did an oil change this afternoon, drained out the old stuff and put in some castrol magnatec. i havent taken it out for a spin but it seemed to be idling better now.

yet to have it installed, waiting till insurance has repaired the damage on the wagon first.
Hey dude... i just got a rigma... cant wait to start moddin it... im thinking about going down the webber and s/c route. Let me know how you go with the cam... as id realy like to know :D

hey :D
yeah ive just finished putting a weber 32/36 DGAV on my sigma and it runs soo much better !
also replaced the ignition coil with a bosch transformer one, part MEC723
i havent bought a cam or headers yet, i dont know wether i should or not, i really dont want to keep spending money on this car. really i should sell it and buy an old school V8:doubt:
oh and ive had great fun lately going around corners, boot full of right foot + kickdown = sideways moments : )
How hard was it to A)Source the Webber and B) put it on...
to hell with old skool V8s i want HiPo 4cyl Boosted Sideways action... lol (J/K)
and yeah... go around corner down into 3rd kick it in the *** then wooo hooo sideways :D gotta love it... need more power though
bosh super 4 plugs and bosh dizzi + coil going in this WEnd looking for a webber. :D or holley or whatevers gonna help the tyre frying :D

well the weber i found on ebay and paid umm 40 bucks for it, got a rebuild kit for around 35 and put that through it to freshen it up. the adaptor plate you can buy easy from most auto parts stores infact i found one on ebay too the other week. carby just bolts straight down. just make sure you get some good silicon based(that blue crap) gasket sealant to use on the coolant passege that flows coolant from the manifold to the standard carby. and use a petrol resistant sealant to seal the adaptor plate to the manifold.
hardest part is mucking about making up a bracket to hold the accelerator cable. oh and its a good idea to reuse the standard accelerator cable linkage thing off the standard carby, you can turn it upside down and bolt it on and it works great : )

ok guys, lately ive been looking to buy an old v8 holden to do up, but today i had a good idea. ive been looking at different old school muscle cars lately and i came across the chrysler muscle cars, checking through websites and stuff i found that the old 245 and 265 hemi 6 cylinder engines put out a very respectable approx 175hp and 195 hp each. now i remember a rumor a while back that a hemi will bolt straight into an old galant. now the sigma and the galant shared engines and were from the same manufacturer. so im thinking about getting a hemi from the wreckers and cramming it into the sigma !!
has anyone ever come across this idea before ?

There is a web site ( i cant seem to find it ffs ) and they sell supra 5 speed kits for all types of cars. Im sure they would have something for the 302.
I wish the first gens were rwd. I would get a Nissan V8 engine and bolt a supra 5 speed behind it.
I was thinking about a 4ltr Toyota V8 like the ones in the soarers... but then i thought... naaa not as good as the real thing. :P my family have a boat with a worked 302... nothing sounds as nice as that boat... im hoping the sigma will get close :D

The Nissan and Toyota V8's are a very awsome engine.
This guy on the Skylines australia forum dropped in a VH45DE ( 4.5L DOHC EFI V8 ) from an infinite into his Skyline. He took it down to the drags and got into the 13's and thats a stock N/A engine!! He got a supercharger onto it and got into the 11's!!
Find me a Stock 5L that can do that!.
I wont be suprised if the 4.5L nissan pumps out about the same power as a 5.7L GenIII.

Just a tip man, move the TB at the intake side of the charger along with the airflow stuff.
If you leave the TB where it is, you have to **** around with a BOV, the brake booster and vacuume lines because when u are boosting, things that are meant to work under vacuume are under boost..
Well this is our experiance with my brothers SC14 on his VN commie.
depends if you gonna rig it up as a blow through or a suc through. if its a suc through then tecnicaly it is still operating under vacumm...
P.S.
I may of found a smashed up TS Magna so the Rigma is gonna be injected soon :D

Also, it depends if some of the lines are before the butterfly because once the butterfly closes, that preasure is going to go through them.
I really cant wait to see this Sigma once its done :)
Just wondering how your going with the S/C Terror? Im getting all the EFI gear i need for $50... how sweet is that?
if you got the time... maybe EFI would be a good idea for your project too... Easier to manage your boost that way.
TM-Terror
21-06-2006, 10:20 PM
i havent got the blower yet, it will probably take a few days to get it.
well im planning on seting it up as a blow through setup, going through the weber 32/36 with an adjustable blow off valve near the carby.
although the fuel injection setup does sound like an intresting idea. where did you get all the parts ? wont it be hard to wire up the ECU etc ?
Naaa... just unbind the looms and have a look at your wiring diagram... not that hard realy... although i would go doing an EFI conversion unless your willing to put it in the shed for a few weeks. Im luck i have a heap of mates that do this sort of thing all the time... they are used to working on 13bT SR20DET CA18DET 4AGZE and then i said gimme a hand with my Astron... suprisingly they all jumped at it :D Yeah... its not that hard if you have access to all the right tools and books... just get a workshop manual for a EFI magna and it will have al the wiring diagrams for the EFI setup... Easy.
how did you go with the S/C??

GSR models dont come with turbo unless it's been fitted. someone might have taken the set up from a sigma turbo and put it on this... or it's after market stuff
I dunno, the astron is a lot of work to stop it leaking/smoking/drinking/farting/chewing/grinding.
to fix an astron, it's like taking a piss - we rebuild my mates in his sigma GSR then fuel injected it - and always working on mine and other mates magnas and sigmas, ... very easy than all the holden red/blue motors i've worked on... i'd say the buick v6 in the vn and later is more of a *****.

Its been turboed apparently. I havnt seen the car yet. I don't even know if its auto or manual or what colour it is.
But its free!
I have to get rid of the stripped magna in my front yard.
EDIT:
Oh and i found working on the EV6 and the 202 easier than the Astron simply because they are in north south configuration. Heaps easier to get out of the car with basic tools.
