Well I bought my GTV today and already looking at what I should do to it. Priced up some wheels to fit the standard 225/50/17 wheels but told that 7 inch rims are not rated to suit weight of car except the standard wheels and that I have to go to 8 inch but that will require 235/45/17 tyres. Does anyone know better? Also as these are already lowered will Kings low make any difference to ride height.

Thanks for any advice.

Congratuations on the purchase :)

Well somebody is pulling your legs, 7" wide rims not enough to hold the weight of the car? :bowrofl:

Although from memory the GTV does come standard with 17x7" rims (well on the KL's), and well many standard pack Magna's come with a 15x6" rolling stock. Your main thing to look for would be the load rating on the tyres rather than the wheels. Specifications say we need at least a load rating of 94, but there is the controversy on what is legal and what is not if you don't meet that requirement.

You'll find 235/45/17s are a lot cheaper as they'e mass produced, the XR6 and SS Commie have them on their 17's.

17x7s are bigger than stock, so whoever told you they were too narrow were pulling your leg. 17's are as big as you can go "legally" although everyone gets away with 18s. If you choose the right 17 they look alright on the car too :) Good luck with it buddy.

What happened to the original rims? Do you have pics of the car?

I'm afraid that the GTVs came with 17x7 stock which means you are legally allowed to go
max 19" in diameter and 8" in width. 235/45/17 tyres range between 7 to 8 inch wheels
with 7.5" the recommended and range between 7.5 to 8.5 with 8" the recommended and
some even between 8 and 9.

Thats right Vlad it has 17x7 wheels and since the tyres are brand new and will not fit legally(Ithink) on 8 inch rims Im looking for a good 7 inch rim.

I like the CSA Gladiator in 17x7. They are a nice wheel and would look good against the silver colour of the car. Then comes the lowering.

Yep, the stock 225/50/R17 tyres are illegal on rims wider than 7". Also, whats wrong with
the stock 17x7 rims?

Vlad,
Nothing wrong with them I just want something a bit different to all the other GTVs out there.

good price, mine doesnt have the sun roof though, paid 23k 6 months ago with 40K on it.

if its still under new car warranty get the seal around the back window checked, or search 'warranty' on the forum for other stuff to get checked out.
