I own a TJ and i am unsure of a sound it makes, its probably normal and its not loud but the engine sounds a little like a timing chain is loose? but its faint...
Its done 120,000k's when r they due for services? i know belts must be done every 100k but its a chain isn't it?

Again i am usure of if it is normal or not, i have never heard a cars motor before becuase my old cars have all had thundering exhuasts and the Magna is oh so peacefull, i can hear every tick and grind lol.

Thanks...

It's a belt. Go change it. You don't want it snapping, shredding or coming off.

OH, and by the way the Timing Belt is the owner's responsibilty to change and pay for it.

Good luck getting them to change it under warranty

i'll be interested to see what the dealer says - mate or not ::D :D

many dealers sell cars that need their timing belts/water pumps etc done, and then its up to the person who buys it not realising this to shell out the hundeds of dollars to do the work.

let us know.

If you just purchased this u have 3months statutory warranty as it's under 10 yrs old.

Take it back and say hey wtf is this u guys are obliged to fix this, u dont i take legal action, doesn't look so good for u guys then huh?

I pried into the plastic cover and the belt looks brand spankin new, there is no way its done 120,000k's because i changed the belt on my laser mself and it was 115k old and it had small cracks and wear...

Things seem to be all good :)

your rattle is probably one of the pullys or belts at the front of the engine.
do a search for noisy pullys and you should turn up some stuff.
Personally i oiled all of the pullys on my car and it quietened everything down.

The timing belts have been known to snap/break after 130,000 haven't they? Its the sorta thing that you just have to do. Don't you have a log book with the car?

Your lucky it looks like its been changed recently, why would they have to pay for it?

Cool, thanks for all the advice, shes at 123,000k's now and it looks like its just been out of the box so i think the belt could have been done by the dealer or just b4 trade-in i might give them a call...
