In short, yes!

Yep, they certainly are and the poor resale and images of poor reliability thanks to the TM and TP versions.

yeah because falcon and commodore have kept the same name,,
theres no reason that the 380 couldnt be called MAGNA just like the TM Magna couldnt be called SIGMA back in 85
people buy falcons and commos because they have been around for ever even though
they have changed so much
where as magna owners would never say that there car was a SIGMA and that SIGMAS are ****
mitubishi just cant make up their mind
i was in NZ last year and i saw magnas that were sigmas and the worst one was a 2001 TRITON like the one i have as a work car and it was called L200
i like the 380 i think its better than the the ford or holden BUT it realy needs a better name,

yeah but how long ago was that??
TM came out the same time as the first XF falcon and the TP wasnt a bad car,way better than the EA
So many times I've heard 'oh yeah magna autos are unreliable pieces of ****'. That stigma still carries on even though it is applicable to those cars from 15-20 yrs ago.
Once people associate something with a car (or name), its very hard to get rid of. Vice versa...people buy **** cars thinking they're good....eg landrover freelander

what about all the probs with EA falcons and the the XF before it???
they were much worse than the the magna ever was,,, but people still buy FALCONS BY THE TRUCK LOADS i still think that the magna(sorry 380) is a much better car and ive had magnas as company hacks since around 1990 when it was a TP wagon then a TS,TE,TJand now BA Falcon, when i asked why did we stop getting magnas they said "they dont make em any more" then i said what about the 380 and they said "because its new and we dont know what they are like" and thats when i said they are MAGNAS you dick,, but they still dont beleve me, im getting a new car at the end of next month and ive got a choice of BF Falcon,Commodre,or cammry is there a 380 with my name on it??

just like the TM Magna couldnt be called SIGMA back in 85
then if this happened we wouldnt have a car called a magna would we lol
in short the new name was for the new image because the bad past resembled the name
and sigmas are great cars any way very plush for there days

I couldn't not give a rats ass about what ill informed people think about Magna's.
What matters, is that good people like you and me know that Magna's are damn fine cars - reliable and good to drive. Because of the stigma attached to them, it means that we can have a newer, lower mileage vehicle, better equipped and better looking for our money than what we'd get if say we bought a Toyota - whos reputation harks back to the 1970s when the Corona's were deemed reliable.
And remember back then to be deemed reliable you only had to break down less that what the local cars were. Kingswood? Ford? Holden etc...

there you go, you just answered your own question. A lot of people put sigma's and magna's in the same category (ie, crap). You can bet your bottom dollar that 380 owners will get grumpy if you call their car a magna (its already happened)....for exactly the same reason as you state with the sigma/magna situation...
If you havent realised, Magna's werent "cool", arent "cool", and never will be "cool", but a lucky few of us don't care and have seen the potential behind that bull**** poor image! :)

Meh, let peopel think Magnas are crap. They are awesome cars. Fast, reliable and comfortable.
I really hope the 380 picks up in sales and becomes a success. The styling might be questionable (by some anyway, I like it personally) they are suposedly VERY well built, well handling cars.

I'm sorry but; previous versions of Falcon and Commodore haven't had reliability issues?? (ask a mechanic what cars keep them in a job - my bet is the early E series falcons will be very high on the list)
As nice as it would be for the Magna name to have lived on (trust me - I'm trying to sell one at the moment), the inevitable fact is that it was never an option for Mitsubishi, and I severely doubt the magna name will ever make a comeback (like the "colt") seeing as it's been superceeded.

That's because of the huge sucess they had before it. XA-XC were a great range of Falcons, also the XW, XY, etc. etc. The XY GTHO's, the XB Cobra Coupes, the amount of races they had won, the list goes on why they still kept that name. Yeah sure, they've made a few bad runs, but they made a hell of a following before that.
Also, the EA was a groubndbreaking car, sure it's an old **** hole now, but back in the day the EA faklcon was a design that hadn't been seen in Australian cars before, everythign was all new from the XF series, and was all europian influenced. From what people who have told me (because they could actually remember when it came out, where as i could barly speak) was that it was a real "wow" car and something totally different, and they sold laods of them.
But yes, it's a pos now :P

I know people are going to whinge that the thread is closed...but the fact is this will do nothing in all reality. "Should've, would've, could've".
It's not called a Magna...it's a 380. Thats it.
Please for the last time, keep this section for actual decent talk about the 380, remembering that these generation forums are for specific tech, mod and spec talk.
