Hi All,

Just bought a Magna TJ 2002 about a month ago (impressed with the purchase) and have been reading through many of the different posts. Would like to say "great read & great forum", have learned so much about Magna's over the past few weeks.
Would like some advice on installing a h/u. I know a bit about electronics etc but never installed a h/u before, always paid someone else to do it . Rather than potentially screwing with the current wiring for the original h/u does anyone know of a wiring harness I can purchase which will save me having to cut/splice the wires?

Appreciate the help :),

What's the new headunit (brand/model) you'll be installing?

as Mad Ix and myself can tell you...

you pay either $20 for a wiring harness....or have some crimps and heatshrink and do it yourself in about 20 minutes..

4 wires you have to connect, easy as pie really.
you dont need alot of electrical know how, just a few diagrams and you'll be fine:)

Currently undecided but leaning towards the Pioneer DEH3850MP or Sony CDXGT150.

if its between those to brands for head units, i'd say that pioneer would be the better bet, but maybe thats personla preference :D

second that. Pioneer would be my own choice.

i've had a Pioneer DEH2750 and now a DEH 4750MP, and never had any probs whatsoever with em, and also very user friendly too.:D :D

go repco, theyll advise you if they have a plugin harness available for your model. i left my original plug on, wired up the provided harness for the h/u with scotchlocks to the existing wires, took about 10 minutes.

He prolly wants the harness so he can take out his headunit and replace the stock one if he wants to sell the car.

thats exactly the reason i refused to cut the original plug. all i have to do to replace my original h/u is undo the scotchlocks and done :)

Why not just by a $90 hu when he sells the car than the original, cd player is generally gonna increase the cars value if only slightly.

People who just want a cd player in a car would rather buy a car with one already in it than replace it. Otherwise they will have to pay someone because they haven't got a clue about doing it, or cant be bothered.

It's also gonna help sell your car

I went to repco over the weekend and they have the wiring harnesses for the h/u install although it's going to take a month to order the parts as Aeropro (i think that's the brand) don't have any in stock. I'm going to try and install the h/u myself with the help of a couple of mates. Thanks for the advice, I'll let you guys know how I'll go.

Seems as though this post is now starting to become a blog :). I've installed the h/u (pioneer deh-p1y), centre console come off no problem thanks to the instructions. The only thing left is that I couldn't work out which wire\s provide power to the centre console lights and I couldn't connect the factory standard clarion 6 stacker to the h/u.
Would anyone know how to rewire the centre console lights? There are two wires left over from the car's side (sorry can't remember the colours) and an illumination wire (orange) from the h/u.
Is there also a connection available to convert the stacker's round c-bus lead into the h/u's rectangular port?
Thanks again for your help guys.
