Hi I recently had a rather Uber stero fitted in my 2001 Magna Sports and of course they had to dissconnect the battery to attach all the wiring. Now my computer thingo has gone all haywire and my car keeps stalling. I read somewhere that this is normal and it just takes the ecu a bitta time to retune itself. But I have done over 300km's in it since the battery was disconnected and its still doing it! Most of the time it only stalls when the car is stopped but sometimes it does do it when taking slowish corners and thats the worst time! As your power steering also cuts out making the corner very difficult to get around!

I am starting to get quite conncerned! Is this normal behaviour for a reseting ecu or is there possibly something else amiss!

you need to reset the base idle

Their is a screw ontop of the air intake on the engine to reset the idle speed.
Personally before doing that I would try disconnecting the battery again, and letting the computer relearn the idle.
On first start let the engine idle for about 5 mins, before taking it out for a drive. My idle usually settles down after about 1 hr of driving. Although i have never had a stalling issue.

Also you may have a batch of dodge fuel.

Was this just a head unit or amps as well? You could possibly be pushing the limits of your alternator and at a low idle / rpm range its not getting enough juice around your car and thus causing a stall.

It has 1 x 1000wrms v12 amp and one 4x100 amp and a 1.5f cap. I dont beleive its the stero as the problem still occurs when I turn the thing off.

I dont think its the fuel either as I took it in with only half a tank and I didnt get the stalling problem untill after the Stero Install. I have since filled up again and its still stalling!

How long should I disconnect the battery for to reset the ecu ?? I'll try that first before playing with any screws!

disconnecting the battery for 5 mins should be fine

Did you install it??

They could of accadentily knocked the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) sensor located near the TB (Throttle Body) It faces towards the front of the carwith a little red clip/plug on it. This swivals around and lets the computer know how far the TB is open. Check to see that this isnt loose. There shouldnt be any reason to adjust the Idle control screw on the TB, unless you have exhausted all other avenes first

Thank goodnes someone else has this issue... I've got a 1996 KE Verada doing the same thing :-(

Had it to Mitsa service 4 times, no joy...each time they assume its something different, then it will work for a week or two then start stalling again...Not sure if you have exact same issue but here goes:

- Stalls at low speed, roundabouts, intersections, etc
- Stalls at 0-60 in a straight line
- Sometimes restarts first go, other times takes 20+ or 30mins of attempts

Mitsa service dept have:

1) Assume it was an idle problem - placed on computer, adjusted idle
2) 2nd time - assumed it was immobiliser aerial problem - reconnect3ed aerial
3) 3rd time - assumed it was immobiliser fault (apparentl;y commen in these models????) and implemented a workaround that was apparently standard back then when servicing ??
4) 4th time - last week, believe its an idle motor issue - needs replacing @ $380 ??, or (and this is a classic "it could be just an issue with the motor, just a quirky thing..." unquote Mr Service Tech...

I've had enough and need this sorted - help please any mechanics who really know what they are talking about or have corrected this ?????

Its my only mode of transport and need help urgently....

Ps: Im in Sydney NSW (West) if anyone can assist with reputable mechanic who should be able to address...

Cheers guys

Is the battery more than 2 years old? Consider trying a known good battery, but in any case clean the battery terminals and the cable connections on the inside with WD40.
Leave disconnected for at least 1/2 hour and use a battery charger if you have one.
Connect an additional 4mm automotive wire from the -ve battery terminal to a good earth on the chassis.
Check alternator belt is taut.
What suburbs do you travel in?

Cheers, Barry

I believe that after you disconnect the battery and reconnect it you are supposed to let it idle for at least 10 MIN'S for the computer to set everything right again I did this with mine and it worked fine.:D

gday all..

to fix the stalling problem people get when disconnecting batteries etc... one must remove the air induction tubing from the throttle body.. just remove the whole section from the air filter assy after unplugging air flow meter... use carbi cleaner or other solvent to clean out the carbon gunk from the butterfly.. and then remove the two 8mm head bolts on the ISC motor, take the motor out, clean all the carbon and gunk off it.. make sure the rubber "O" ring is not swollen and ok, refit all.. then start up! keep the car at idle with a/c on for about 5 mins.. then use the air bleed adjusting screw to drop or raise rpm...
hope this helps!

My problem appears to have been fixed! I disconnected the battery for about 10mins and cleaned all the battety terminals! I used Isopropyl (great stuff but dont drink it! Seriously I know a guy who did!!!!). Then let it Idle for about 5-10 min and took it for a spin, it did run a little rough at first but its getting better everytime I drive it!

I think the initial problem must of been caused by the snstaller removing the battey terminal, but not for long enough to fully reset the ecu! maybe it still had partial memory????

Anyway taking it for long drive let u all know how it goes soon!
