View Full Version : Help removing ash tray/cig lighter
Ok, i just need a couple of hints on how to remove the cig lighter and ash tray combo so i can install a cd player. Its the type where both the cig lighter and the ash tray slide into the panel as opposed to the other where the cig lighter is always exposed. It just doesnt want to come out, whats the trick???

You should remove the console around the gear box first, then the ashtray will come out easy (no force :P)
lol

they are all clipped in
Theres a console around the gear box:shock: :P Yeah i removed it but the section just didnt want to come out without using half my weight on it. Unless its was because its the different version(i havent seen any other 3rd gen with one like it) and MMAL stuck it in solidly in the first place....

I have a TE and the same problem with the ash tray, just pull and it will eventually just come out, make sure you remove the plastic round the gear box!
You realise that you have to pull a part like most of the interior. i learnt the hard way:rant: .
its a really long job, put a side 1 day to be on the safe side.
Really research the correct method of doing this, or just pay JB like 60 bucks and they will do it for you.

You do know there is a FAQ on how to remove the console in the Audio thread or the FAQ page? As this is what everyone does when you need to remove a player etc...
And is pretty much the same for al 3rd Gen Magnas where most can follow.
If you cant find the link, let me know.

Mine has the cig lighter sliding with the ashtray.
check to see if the cig lighter can be 'popped' out.
You may have to pop it out first and remove the connectors before pulling the rest out?
If you can post up a pic that would be handy :)
Like mine?? If so just pull on it, either that or you need really strong and grippy fingers to get a hold on the inside of it.

looks like where the cig lighter is clips in. Can you push down and pull out? If not, can you get under the cig lighter to push it up and out?
Im pretty sure its all one module, its too dark and cold outside to check at the moment. Hence why i started this thread, it was an absolute ***** to get out lol
ps. since when is B itch a swear word  next "Bloody" will be filtered too lol

I took out the part pointed by the blue arrow, not a problem. I'm asking how to get the piece pointed by the red arrow out (the ashtray frame). thanks for the pic by the way
Now youve got me, my blue bit stayed attached to the red bit:confused:
In which case put your fingers there (yellow arrows) push agaisnt the sides and pull it out, it takes a fair bit effort (i though i was going to break something when i did it). The clips are in the same place (blue circle) as the other type of ashtray/lighter combo. All you need to do is pull hard enough for these to come out and bingo :)
