disks - maybe a cheap upgrade to 3rd series . . .. . .. .
throttle body - any way of getting round the fly by wire issue . .. . . .
does the kia 3.8 use a DOHC version of the 3.8?????

Nup, I don't believe it is related to the Mitsu 380 3.8 v6. From what I understand, the 380 3.8 v6 is iron block, alloy head with SOHC and the basics of this motor have been around for donkeys years.
Whereas, Hyundai's 3.3 v6 'lambda' engine first seen here in the new Sonata and soon to be released Granduer is all aluminium DOHC and apparently 'all new'. The Grandeur will have a 3.8 v6 version of this engine.
Now, as Hyundai owns Kia, I assume (and going by the similar kw/nm figures) that the newly released Grand Carnival uses the same 3.8 version of the 'lambda' engine as fitted to the new Granduer.

I doubt very much the rear section of piping, and hanger mounts would match up considering the rear axle / suspension setup would be different. Probably not worth it regardless considering there are plenty of good aftermarket options available.

Now this is something I'm interested in, although I wouldn't count on it being a "cheap upgrade". I'm taking my TJII in for some warranty work tomorrow, I'll try and coax some info out of them regarding compatibility - or at very least get a price for disc/hub/caliper's.

Also of interest - but I doubt it. Even if you could get around the fly by wire throttle, theres other considerations like TPS and ICS which probably aren't compatible. For anyone who's willing to live without cruise control - a better option would probably be a custom billet t/b.

No idea on this one. The brakes are definetly the most promising as far as I'm concerned.
