Going from a fairly small car (interior volume wise) nissan Silvia, I had a single 12" in it. my previous car VP commo had 2 12"s. Just wondering what i'll need for the Magna?
Im planning my boot install at the moment but dont want to do all the work just to find out that ive used the wrong components.
the 3 choices are
single 12"
dual 12"
single 15"
I know the 15" isnt as responsive as a 12" thats why id probably prefer to run 12"s but its just then a case of 1 or 2? what do you guys run and what would you reccomend.
Thanks
David

id say depends on the sub/amp package and what ur preferences are
1 good sub is better than 2 cheap nasty ones.

Wont be cheep and nasty thats for sure.
i currently have the latest pioneer 12" and one of the older vccs 12" and a JVC 4ch amp.
What Samurai means is that if you are aiming for a superior SQL system, then a single better quality unit is better than two lesser quality ones. :)

double 12's pump out so much bass you wont know what to do!
(im a bass junkie)
ive never had a single sub system, so i cant comment on that, but having the 2 12's really does go insane, it still sounds alright too.
so i dunno.....for me 2 12's would be the go, but only if you love insane bass like me:)

I think you're spending too much time on how many subs you want and not enough actually looking for subs and establishing a budget.
What is trying to be said, for example if you have a $500 limit. 2x12" $250 subs arn't going to have the sound quality that you'll get from a single 12" $500 sub. Sure, you want more bass and good SQ, then get 2 $600 subs, and say hello to spending a shyt more money that you wanted to ;)
I chose the 1x $500 12" sub for my verada, and it sounds great, gives a nice punchy bass but isn't over powering. if you're in vic, come on a cruise and have a listen to what some people have set up :) (or if you're in any other state fror that matter :P )

Sound Pressure Level...i dunno the exact term of how its defined....
i got my 2 ported 12's in and they sound fantastic, i couldnt give a hoot if they were designed for SQ or SPL but it doesn both jobs very nicely

Me I like a Balanced System so I like Two 12 inch Subs..
Whilst it is True, you cant Get High Quality Bass from two Lesser Quality Subs but you can Get Superior Output..
1 $1000 12 inch Sealed Sub will have to be driven fairly Hard to equal the Bass Output of Two Cheaper subs in a Tuned Bandpass Enclosure..
So We will have to wait till we get a little more Info as to If he wants to Rumble his Kidney's or to please his Audio Senses...

Im after SQ more than SPL
i already have an amp and a choice of 2 subs so id prefer to spend more on sound deadening and the install than buying more components. The question was more a case of is 1 12" big enought to get good bass out of such a large car?
It depends on the music im listening to but i listen to alot of rnb aswell so i want bass then.
its hard to explain.

Well SQ and R&B dont Exactly work..
R&B contains a lot of Low end Bass..
So 1 12 inch Sub Wont Keep you happy..
I would look at Two 12 inches in a Sealed Enclosure.. that would give you the Bass but Retain the Quality needed..
Look at getting JBL, Fusion,JL Audio and Rockford Fosgate..

Thanks for that :)
i was thinking of doing a false floor and mounting 1 12" and the amp in there. then if i was going to run another 12" put that in a box at the back of the boot firing into the "ski port" or whateva it is. with an engraved perspex back.
does anyone know how much sound deadening (sqft) is needed to do the whole boot in a TH?

It is Best to have Both subs firing in the same Direction from the same location or you will end up with cancellation issues
